When it comes to Presidential libraries, the first (this one) is clearly the best. The highly interactive and constantly updated exhibits, artifacts, and more provide the visitor with a well-balanced perspective of both the triumphs and trials this great leader faced. And, while the more current political climate seems to sometimes put personal ego above service for the good of many, I left the museum with a renewed sense of patriotism in terms of service to my fellow human being, rather than merely freedom for myself. Enjoy! Note: I have the National Park Senior pass, but the museum and library (as opposed to the home) are administered by the National Archives as are all presidential libraries, do the pass does not cover entry. Nonetheless, senior admission is only $6.00, a true bargain. PS; The New Deal shop and bookstore is incredible too!

Great experience. It's a bit far off in the woods.. The compound consists of several buildings. There is a main welcome center, the house and stables, and the library and museum. You can see the bed he was born in, Look to your right and see the garden where he and his wife are buried. The museum is enormous and comprehensive. Starts with his election and goes to his death. It ends in the archives. There is one mention of his girlfriend...blink and you miss it. There's piece of the USS Arizona and tons and tons of correspondence. Letters from the American people to him, letters from kings and prime ministers. War correspondence. Plan on spending the day. There is a Cafe and gift shop (which was closed)

HIGHLY recommended - one of the more informative presidential libraries that we have visited. Start at the Henry Wallace Visitor Center to get your tickets and save your receipt - admission is good for two days. There was no option to reserve your slots online. If you are a veteran - you get a free admission. There is also a cafe, bathrooms and water refill station, and a movie on loop in the visitor center, too. We found it more advantageous to reserve a Roosevelt house tour slot and do that first.. then visit the library as it was open until 6p in the summer with no timed slot necessary. Three hours minimum recommended to read most of the exhibits..!

This library does a fantastic job in showcasing FDR’s presidency and underscoring how important he and Eleanor were in guiding us through the Great Depression and WWII. The exhibits have been recently updated and are as high-tech as any of the Smithsonian Museums in DC. I also appreciate that they honestly address criticisms of his administration (Japanese-American Internment Camps) and well-founded rumors (FDR’s and Eleanor’s affairs). FDR and Eleanor paved the way for the USA to become the amazing country it is today with their focus on safety nets for the poor, advancing equal rights for all Americans, and fighting vigorously on behalf of our freedoms.

The FDR Museum is quite excellent, I highly recommend you visit. Plan a full day in order to see everything, but get there early because the guided tours fill up fast. The museum is well laid out and has great information about FDR's presidency (and early life). I really appreciated how the museum presented both the positive and negative aspects of FDR's personal and professional lives. I find that missing from most presidential libraries, they rarely cover the negatives. If you have kids, keep in mind that the museum is not very interactive, so little ones in particular may lose interest quickly.

If you love history, you'll love this first ever presidential library, completed during FDR's third term. There is entrance to the library, which is the main thing to see. There is also entrance to the home, which is called a tour, but is not like a typical home tour. That is, a docent talks about an entire floor and then allows guests a few minutes to look at the rooms from the doorway. Not quite as extensive as I was hoping for, but I'm glad I saw it once. If you have to choose, opt for the museum. There's much more to see. Allow 1.5 hours for the museum and 40 minutes for the home.
