La Catrina Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Town of Hyde Park

I’ve got to say, this lunch started out great. Service was friendly and the food was great. My wife had ordered the spinach enchiladas and I ordered steak fajitas. We were enjoying everything, that is until I decided to put some of the shredded cheddar cheese on my plate onto my fajitas. It immediately changed the flavor of the fajitas sour. I smelled the cheese close up next and it had definitely gone bad as it had a sour smell as well. I brought it to the attention of the waitress who agent and got who I’m assuming was a manager, he never said. I told him what I had found and he said he would go in the back and check. This was the last we saw him. Next one of the bussers came out and started clearing our plates. Soon after, our waitress came back with the check and nonchalantly said sorry about the cheese. I asked if they had found that the cheese was bad and if it was pulled from service where she kind of just nodded and said yeah, again blowing off the issue. It was an extremely strange experience, not one I’ve ever had on the rare occasion I’ve had an issue.

It’s sad because up until how the cheese situation was handled everything had been really good. This was the first time we had been to this restaurant and we’re looking forward to coming back. I had a terrible experience with this restaurant’s customer service. I initially placed an order through DoorDash, but the restaurant got it wrong. When I called to address the issue, I was told that because I ordered through DoorDash, I couldn’t receive a refund. Instead, they offered to add my name to a list at the front, allowing me to come in at any time to receive a replacement meal at no charge.

When I went in today to redeem this offer, I was given a check for my meal. I explained the situation to the waiter, who then contacted the manager. After waiting, the waiter returned and told me the manager wanted me to come back in an hour to get a refund from DoorDash. I reiterated that a DoorDash refund was not possible, as the food was delivered but incorrectly prepared by the restaurant. I was simply following the instructions I had been given.

After waiting 40 minutes, I was ultimately told they couldn’t do anything for me unless I returned within the next hour to speak with the manager in person. The manager refused to speak to me over the phone, making it clear that my time and experience were not valued.

This was by far one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. The miscommunication, lack of accountability, and overall disregard for my time were unacceptable. If I could give zero...

Pro. Margaritas, Service, Portion sizes Cons. Bland food, salsa, pricing

So we decided to pay a visit here since its close by. The old brew pub in Hyde Park Ambiance is nice, Attentive staff. They first put chips, salsa and a bean dip on the table. The salsa was pure water, couldnt stay on the chip. It had a few onions in it. Dreadful is being kind. The bean dip although not much of it, was good. Chips hearty, would be better heated. Did I say the salsa was water? Im serious. Never seen Salsa like that. It wasnt salsa, thats for sure

Next were the huge Margaritas. Very good, however 15 bucks for that is highway robbery! Next was the guacamole. A very bland chunky guac that sorely needed some flavor.

Tacos and fajitas were good, but the fajita had no peppers or onions which we found odd Price for 2 was 89 bucks. Hardly cheap. Place is overpriced, but in all honesty its not bad. They need to tweak a few things. Service was great!
