What an incredible experience! I found the price of admission to be extremely reasonable, given that it is a relatively small museum. The experience was well worth the price! Immediately upon entering we were greeted warmly by the member of museum staff at the front counter, asked if we'd visited before and when we said no, we were given a quick rundown of the museum's features. It was nice to have that instead of wondering "where do we go first?" and we very much appreciated that!

My spouse and I were lucky enough to visit during the Wiigwaazii: The Evolving Traditions of Birch" exhibit and that took our breath away. It was really fun to walk through the modern exhibition center and then down the hall to the old, original museum and the exhibits of artifacts and the Sailor's Home and the "Old Jail". I highly recommend this museum if you're visiting Madeline Island and are a...

This is a top-notch museum and a crown jewel of the Wisconsin Historical Society (as well as the Society's only site in northern Wisconsin). It consists of a modern museum with excellent programs (look at the calendar of Wednesday evening talks) and special exhibits plus a "museum within a museum," the original Madeline Island Museum opened by Bella and Leo Capser in 1958. Note that the original museum is preserved with all of its flaws; the artifacts and stories would be presented very differently in a new museum.

Membership in the Historical Society includes all of the museums and historic sites and is well worth the annual fee. If you don't want to become a member, adult admission to this...

The new portion of the museum which is about 60% of the museum is very good and provided much needed and hard to find indigenous Ojibwe art, culture, stories, history and current information. The art is particularly stunning and the gift shop is cool. The older portion of the museum is more status quo, kind of creepy and boring European settler artifacts of extraction and colonization. Definitely worth a visit if you appreciate knowing where about the land and its people. Admission is very affordable and staff were friendly and...

The historical musical video was well done. The videos in the new side of the museum were relevant and easy to watch. My kids liked the creation myth story video that went with the painting on wall. The children's nook in the old museum was a hit, the kids loved feeling the pelts. It's not the most exciting museum, but it's good for an hour or 2 walkthrough while visiting the island. -Oh.... And who puts buttons on the wall will a sign not to push the buttons? That's a bit much for anyone to bear 🤣

This is not our first time at the museum and won't be the last. We had a great time here, yet again. We actually did a tour with them as well as had the kids do a little class (which they enjoyed. Boys 8&11) Museum is not huge, but has a lot of stuff and a lot of info. Some of the exhibits were different from a few years ago, which also was cool. Staff was always amazing! (I think we bothered them 3 different days) Thank you for a great time.

This is not worth the admission of $10 per person. They charge you to take the Ferry and then want you to pay an admission for the museum. This is a lot $$ for a large family of seven. We did not find the displays or artifacts interesting. Madeline Island we found is overrated and everything is overpriced. Stick to the other Apostle Islands lighthouses and tours. The Bayfield Museum was far more interesting and it’s FREE.
