A "Blast from the Past" !!! This is the same Fruit & Salad Co. that was located in the old Midtown Plaza Mall back in the early 1980's. BTW - This was the 1st indoor mall in the US. I remembered walking to Midtown Plaza a couple days a week and getting "The Roman" salad. There were several locations back then and I thought they all closed. Then I was just driving through Bushnell Basin (Route 252), and I had to do a double-take !! I thought this can't be the same "Fruit & Salad Co." So I quickly pulled over to a small parking lot down the road and whipped out my smart phone and Googled "Fruit & Salad Co." -- And there it was right on their website !! And they were open for dinner. So I immediately turned around and went inside. I walked up to the 'host stand' to be seated, which I remembered back then, you would order and pay on one side of the counter, then grab your food on the other. I waited for about a minute, and a well-aged, white haired gentleman slowly walked up to me and asked how many in my party. And as he was asking, I thought why he looked so familiar. So then I asked him, "Is this the same 'Fruit & Salad Co.' from Midtown Plaza Mall ?" And he looked at me and his eyes grew bright and he responded - "YES, We Are !!" And then I remembered - He was the brown haired bearded man that served me all the time. And everytime he saw me in the line, he would say, "The Roman ?" And I would politely respond back, "Yes Please". It was Ralph, and he's still kicking. Ralph sat us down and we talked for a good 15-20 minutes about the Fruit & Salad Co. and Midtown Plaza Mall, and we just reminisced. So about the food - They have way more now than they ever did. I ordered the Italian Chicken Parmigiana entree with house made sauce. And it tasted just like mom makes it - It wasn't over fancy, it was just great home cooked Italian food. The chicken was so tender, you can cut it with a fork and it wasn't dry. For nostalgia, they still have their original menu from the old days of the Fruit & Salad Co. And they still have -...
Read moreFruit and Salad Co. was my choice for meeting for dinner with my sister in law who works at Strong Memorial Hospital and for us coming up from Seneca Falls. It took us about 46 minutes on the threat to 490 and getting off at Bushnell Basin it is very convenient to get to. We met on a Monday evening at 5:30 and were seated right away at a comfy table. Our server Conner was neat and courteous and spot on throughout the meal. There is a small wine and beer list if you want to imbibe, many choices of soft drinks or carafe of fresh ice water placed on the table to share, along with a generous basket of fresh bread and butter. The menu was well beyond just salads and fruit including potroast, pastas and so much more. We chose the following salads: Monteray which had chicken, bacon, tomato, feta cheese, and avocado on a bed of greens with vinaigrette dressing. I chose to add egg to mine. Chris had the Asian salad featuring chicken and oranges, bean sprouts and other Asian veggies with delivered almonds on greens with ginger dressing. Michelle chose the spinach salad which she opted no mushrooms or tomatoes on, but enjoyed with fresh baby spinach, red onions, oranges and egg and she had the dressing on the side. We all proclaimed them delicious! Very refreshing meal and...
Read moreMy wife and I wanted to get a few salads and have never been here so we gave it a shot.
It’s a cool place and at lunch it’s like ordering at a Panera. You order at the counter and get a pager and when the order is up you pick it up. Ordering was easy with the menu directly behind the register area - they also had paper menus to look at if you wished.
I believe one of the owners took our order and he was a very nice guy we enjoyed speaking with him and he explained the pick up process to us.
I ordered a Cobb salad with chicken and added salmon to increase the protein of the salad. The dressing I chose was balsamic vinaigrette.
My wife ordered the Monterey Salad with chicken and the dressing that comes with it.
Both salads were good. The balsamic dressing was very oil forward and I prefer a vinegar forward dressing. I didn’t plan to use much of the dressing anyway so it wasn’t an issue for me. The dressing with the Monterey was vinegar forward and I liked this better.
I wanted more chicken on the salad for the price. I’m so glad I added the salmon which was very good and added the protein I wanted.
We ate outside on this beautiful day.
I’d return to this place future for a salad or to try...
