I would inform anyone with a turtle to go to a better rehabilitation center instead of this place. Upon speaking to a nasty volunteer on the phone who really had to let us know she has "seen a lot" we had found an Eastern Box turtle injured. It had a broken shell. Two sides and the bottom were punctured greatly possibly from a dog. When I called the place and she told me they may be able to pick it up if another place could not I had thought wow maybe this is a good place. Especially because of the 5 stars on Google. It was after the fact of all of this happening figuring out the only two people who left 5 stars did not write a review. Most likely employees trying to make it seem more attractive. The lady had told me "how could you leave an animal out for 24 hours without help, how could you do that to an animal? By the way the lady who I was talking to must not have been paying attention when I told her I just found him the day before and immediately took the turtle into my house until I could take him to a place in the morning. It was late when we had found him so many places that were suitable to take him to that we take our reptiles to were closed. He had worms eating at him because before finding him he must have been there for a bit. Now after calling me (someone who also vollunteers) a inhumane person she had also spoken to another one of my realitives too berating them. She screamed over the phone at me because she made up her own story which is on her. Not a great way to speak to a client. And than proceeding to tell my other realitive she does not know what she (the volunteer) has seen and really telling us that she is great wanting a praise or something. Well here's you're praise, don't speak to clients like that and yell at them for taking care of animals and than calling them name's on the phone than hanging up when we ask you're name because of how unprofessional you were. Zero...
Read moreWhat a horrible place. What a horrible “rescue person” Her name is Jodi. She thinks she is the turtle police. I came to drop off 2 turtles to be rescued. I was turned away being told they don’t take the type of turtle I had. I asked my options and said I might have to set them free. Keep in mind I’m at a turtle rescue trying to do the right thing. To be threatened by JODI that she was going to call the DEC on me. So I said ok then I will find another place to take the turtles. Another very nice girl came out to my car to tell me a few options I had. She was very sweet and trying to do the right thing for the turtles and me. Now Jodi comes out to the car pushes the nice girl out of the way and starts making more threats. The nice girl had to ask Jodi 5 or 6 times to go back into the building because she continued making threats and was getting physical. How do you call yourself a rescue and your there to help turtles and when someone tries to do the right thing and bring 2 turtles to a “rescue” and you scream them out the door and threaten them because you won’t take the turtles. Absolutely horrible. How can you have someone represent you and have them treat people this way. I see other reviews on here and we are obviously all complaining about the same person. Might be time to let her find a job she doesn’t hate or get some therapy. What I can say is make sure if you go there. Don’t talk to Jodi she is nasty and shouldn’t be allowed to deal with the public. Needless to say. I dropped the 2 turtles at Petco in Riverhead. I Gave them to the manager Heather. So Jodi direct the DEC to heather at the pet o in riverhead so you can close you investigation and move on with...
Read moreAnyone who leaves this organization a negative review has been called out for doing something wrong and is incapable of conceding their actions were harmful. A few weeks ago I found an Eastern Box Turtle who was extremely emaciated, having difficulty opening it's eyes and the one eye it could open looked very pale. As it was after hours we secured the turtle in a box away from our pets, per the instructions on the automated message. The next morning I called and explained the situation, they accepted him with a positive prognosis and even gave my boyfriend a tour of the facility! I work 7 days a week in the summer and could not make it there myself, fortunately my significant other loves critters as much as I do and he volunteered to make the drive. If you cannot make the drive I know they can and will make arrangements for you. Thank you for all that you do and all...
