Great place to learn about the history of Ticonderoga. Most people usually associate it with the pencil. But there’s so much more here, including the paper mill, graphite, etc.
The museum has history on the Dixon Graphite company, the paper mill (which still exists), the hydroelectric history, and all of it is documented in several rooms throughout the museum.
There is a DVD player in one room that has several DVDs that show the history of the pencil, paper mill, Ticonderoga, etc. Its definitely worth your time taking these and watching each one of these, swapping them in and out when they end. They are 7-14 minutes apiece. They look dated but are still relevant.
You get to still walk into a safe that was used - this building was used by the paper mill. Behind this building is green space given back by the paper mill when it relocated to the north part of town. Walk back behind it and observe the falls. (If you are disabled note that you CAN drive down the path and park down there with a placard.)
Great free attraction that you can spend a couple hours in if you like. It’s definitely...

Read moreSuper nice staff, and the displays were interesting, although not enough about pencils! I realize only the graphite comes from here (well i know that now) but still - that's why we were there. A little more info on exactly how pencils are made would have been great ( we could have requested to see an 8 minute video - but in that case why not just YT). We were hoping for a lot more pencil-related in the store - the staff were honestly surprised by our suggestion to have a few pencil-related post cards. So definitely worth a trip if you're in the area - was hoping for a little more on...
