Overall: This is the best pizza in Ticonderoga, but the inconsistent cutting and lack of seating are drawbacks.
Pizza: The pizza is excellent, but the slices are often cut poorly. The crust is generally thin and crispy, but it can vary in thickness and texture depending on the employee making it. On our first visit, a young man made our pizza and the crust was much thicker and fluffier than on subsequent visits, where two different young ladies made it. Every pizza we’ve had has been very good, but the inconsistency was surprising. The pizzas are large and the toppings are fresh and generous.
Subs: I've ordered two subs from here, and both times they were huge, with tons of meat and fresh, crisp ingredients. The bread was also fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this place over other sub shops in the area, which give you half the sub for the same price.
Service: The service is friendly and efficient; they can get overwhelmed at times with orders and will disconnect the phones. The average time from order to ready has been 20 minutes or less in our experience – we have visited 6 times so far. The staff consistently overestimate the wait times so don't be alarmed when they say 40 minutes, etc.
Atmosphere: The atmosphere is clean and new, but the shop is small and has limited seating. Kitchen chatter can be heard throughout the shop, and on one occasion, a young man was cooking while talking on his cell phone and yelling profanity and sexual innuendos. This may not be suitable for families with young children. The kitchen area appears clean and well organized.
Pricing: The prices are reasonable, and the portions are large.
Additional notes: They also offer a variety of other Italian dishes, such as pasta, sandwiches, and salads. I haven't tried any of them yet, but they look and smell good. They offer delivery and takeout, with free delivery within Ticonderoga. House of Pizza has a much larger free delivery area. They sometimes disconnect their phone when they get busy and...
Read moreMy family and I are regular customers. We love the food. It's always great. Have never had a problem and the staff is always very kind and courteous. Tonight, I was treated very poorly by a young man working there. They had forgotten the fries in my order. Not a big deal at all. I went back to inform them of the mistake and to get the fries. The young man at the counter was immediately in strong disagreement that they had forgotten the fries. He insisted he knew "100%" that the fries were in the bag because he personally put them in the bag. He implied I was trying to get free food. After reiterating numerous times that they were not there and calling my girlfriend to check again and make sure I wasn't losing my mind and they truly weren't there, he took the opportunity to say "So you don't even know if they were in there and just came back to get more?". I told him again that we had not received them. He then went to the back and found the fries in the oven. He brought them to the counter and said "I apologize. That's on me". I accepted the apology, took the overcooked fries without complaint and asked him to please check in the future before making accusations and mistreating people. He said "We're all human" and I just said "Alright" before walking out. This young man followed me outside (following quickly behind me, which was alarming) and told me I was the one being accusatory, even though my initial claim was correct. I was not rude, I did not raise my voice. Mistakes happen and that's okay. I simply wanted the food I paid for and to not be treated like a scam artist. The issue was not resolved and I walked away from the young man, who was still on the sidewalk arguing with me. I will not be returning to Porter's. I don't want to be accused of being a scammer when they make a mistake. I am mortified and...
Read moreWhile this place is not accessible for mobility impaired, I was able to get inside with the help of my hubs. It's only 2 steps, but no railing, and no ramp that I could see in the front. Once inside there are 3 tables with 4 seats at each, and a machine with drinks and a la carte sides against the wall. At the counter a friendly face greeted us and took our order. As a vegetarian, I ordered a sandwich that was technically not on the menu, and they accommodated my request with exactly what I wanted, extra provolone, extra jalapenos and an assortment of veg and condiments -- it was delicious! Hubs had a rodeo burger with the fixings, no fries, and we shared a basket of mozzarella sticks. The sauce was awesome, and I believe the sticks were battered-- hot and fresh, and worth every bite! We look forward to coming back to try...
