This place is a metaphor for the state of New Jersey itself-a beautiful place, run by incompetents. We had tickets for Yes featuring ARW on 9/30, and I was trying to find info on the venue. Since Patriots Theater is run by the state of NJ, its website is as badly laid out and uninformative as the rest of the NJ.gov sites. And the Facebook and Google review pages provided little help, specifically about concessions. I called the number for the theater repeatedly, but no one picked up. We get there, and find out there are no concessions at all. The only source of water is a drinking fountain downstairs. I asked one of the ushers why they missed the opportunity to sell food and drink to approximately 1100 people, and she basically said that Chris Christie runs the place, so what do you expect? Once the concert started, security and the ushers were nonexistent. Groups of fans were crowding the corners of the stage, blocking the view of seated fans. Multiple times, the seated fans had to get up, go find security, and ask them to do their jobs, and clear out the people blocking the view. I've never been to a concert that didn't have security standing with their backs to the stage. Then again, I've never been to a "dry" concert before either. However, great concert-fantastic sound, beautiful venue. Just smuggle in some bottled water under your jacket, if you plan on attending a show here. PROS-really outstanding sound, great atmosphere CONS-no concessions, VERY small seats, seems to...
Read moreStately building with history and a historic feel. Well maintained for a state government cultural asset. ( not sure if it’s a state or county property). The sound and acoustics on the lower level are very very good. Makes the balcony sound feel Inferior. However the art / decor are very pleasing. Chairs very comfy. Weekend parking is a breeze and there is some street parking if you drive around.
However, despite me noticing the presence of 3 janitors the restroom directions are not marked clearly. We went to the basement and even tho the rooms were operational the janitor there had them cordoned off and sent us back upstairs. Then it took are a little run around and another janitor literally walked us to one. The restrooms are just fine. However the event we attended had about only 200 people yes the trash was overflowing in the men’s room ! Little embarrassing for a magnanimous place such as this.
Worth attending at least one event here. Especially something with music...
Read moreThe theater is antique and very lovely. The lighting inside the theatre was very impressive. The dim lighting effect is nice for dance competitions. It was cool but not freezing inside the theatre. Some of the seats should be , as they were broken. Overall the seats were soft and comfy. The sound quality was also good - probably because the theatre was designed with sound effects in mind; the music filled the theater in a delightful, crispy way 👏👏 The exterior of the Theatre is very majestic & impressive. We were there on a very rainy, gray day. I'm sure it will stand out even better in the sunlight. Bathrooms were clean. Dressing rooms were also comfortable...
