We come here because its walking distance from our home. My 5 year old son loves it because of all the room (grassy area) that he can run around in and some of the regular kids that go before school lets out. He has become friends with them and asks on a daily basis to go rain or shine. The only thing right now with the COVID stuff going on and how states are closing again because of the numbers going up. Well this past week I've been taking my son every day around 1pm/2pm It has been in the 70°'s and we always go around that time because school lets out around 245pm/3pm. We leave before or right as school is letting out. Parents and there child/children are NOT WEARING MASKS. And I'm telling you this park is extremely busy right after the elementary school dismisses there students. And the other sad things is you would think at least half the kids and parents would be wearing masks but NOPE also the other. You would think that the children that aren't are a little older and not with a care giver and that is why. But NOPE these are the ages of newborn baby to maybe 6 or 7 years old at the most. And it is really sad that there were only about 3 or 4 kids wearing them, that is including Jr (my 5 year old son) & I. But there parent's weren't. Would you think the parent's would be leading by example for there kids to be safe and to do the right and lawful thing and wear there's and make sure there kids are wearing there's, instead of them talking to other parent's (w/there back turned) or they would PUT THERE PHONE'S DOWN ENDLESS THEY ARE TAKING PICTURES/VIDEO OF THERE CHILDREN. And mind you there were over 20 or 30 kids there (and this is when I'm getting my son because school is letting out and the park is getting busy. I couldn't imagine how many kids and parents that weren't even there yet. I know it was nice, it was the week day, and its getting dark by like 530pm/6pm. But doesn't the elementary school's still give the children recess breaks??? I don't know my 4 older son's are grown man or in high school. But if Jr was in school right now with all this(COVID) I sure wouldn't be taking him to a public park right after school when there are at least 30 kids and parent's with NO MASKS, running around in the play area that isn't very big There are soooooo many parks in the town of Valparaiso, that I would just choose a different one or just let my child play outside in the yard using his imagination and playing with some toys. But I'm so very sorry that I vent when I see things like this with the COVID going on and even getting much worse. But if your still reading, thank you for letting me vent on this situation w/ parent's and teaching there children to be safe and mindful of others and them selves. But I love this park and we will continue to go here. We just make sure we go and leave before school lets out. And we always make sure we are wearing our masks. Oh and parent's please carry hand sanitizer with you so you can sanitize your child's hands before and after playing at the park . But Jr loves this park. And we will continue to go and do the right things for others and our selves Being safe, helping the spread of COVID from getting worse. (And other germs)..... Thank you...
Read moreThe park is really nice. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood on 3 sides and by Roosevelt road on the west side.
There are plenty of picnic tables and BBQ spots. Plenty of room to play baseball or football, there are basketball courts there.
It is very quiet and peaceful. This park has particularly old, large, beautiful, shade bearing tree's so even on a hot day you can usually park and sit in a breezy shady place without coming close to anyone else. There is a big playground for kids with slides and swings and all kinds of stuff.
I highly recommend this place but PLEASE Pick up after yourself! There are trash cans pretty much everywhere so no need to leave a mess.
Clean and safe Easy in and out. Lots of parking. Lots of courts. Big playground Plenty of picnic & BBQ spots. Lots of beautiful open space. Lots of beautiful old BIG tree's. Tons of shade. Peace & quiet. Cost to park & hang...
Read moreFantastic park with many trees and shaded areas. The playground equipment was in good condition and it was very easy to have a sit and still be able to supervise/monitor kids at all times. Also appears to be a great spot for a picnic. However, finding where exactly to turn in and park was very confusing with Google or maybe for those unfamiliar with this area. A sign indicating where would save a lengthy drive around several blocks as there is exactly one way in and...
