Took a bass down for a setup with my own special order strings. Told them to check the truss rod adjustment, drop the action a little if possible and set the intonation dead-on. When I picked up the bass on the way to rehearsal, the action was about the same, but what really got me was on two of the strings they only put ONE wrap on the pegs! I told them I've never seen this done except by some kid who is stringing his first guitar. I asked for the "tech" who did my bass and was told he was there but "not available at the moment". Instead they pulled over their other "bass expert", who told me one wrap was fine as long as it stayed in tune. Refused to give me a discount, a refund or offer to make it right. Just "if it doesn't stay in tune then bring it back". I then took my bass to rehearsal and the intonation was still off, and now I had fret buzz on the A string! $86 and a set of $40 strings down the toilet. Stick to trumpets and tambourines, guys.

*I am only giving a bad rating do to my most recent experience, outside of that I have had no problems with this store, and find it to be a great place* During this particular experience I had been shopping for a new clarinet. I have been playing for a few years, and was hoping to upgrade to an intermediate level. My price range was about 500-800 dollars, typical for a used wooden clarinet. To sum it up, I purchased a $640 clarinet, and when I got home, it was out of tune, and wouldn’t even play properly. I had planned on returning it, and out of curiosity looked up the model. Turns out they sold me a clarinet worth no more than 50-100 dollars. I’m not sure what they intended with their mark up prices, but I will never be buying an instrument there again. Here is a screen shot of a clarinet (same model) sold online roughly $500 cheaper.

From my first email to the store, to the clerk at the front desk, to the 3 gentlemen in the back room repairing instruments, everyone I spoke with was incredibly helpful, knowledgable, professional, down to earth, and genuine. They went above and beyond to match me with the perfect clarinet, and it was probably the single best retail experience I've ever had. Everyone in Beacock Music in Vancouver is incredibly knowledgable, passionate about music, and an incredible resource for the customers. Thank you so much!! I got home and could actually play the instrument (after a long hiatus) and promise to take such good care of it! <3

I will never let them do any work on any stringed instrument of mine and will never recommend them to anyone! Beacock Music's guitar luthier, Rick Reiss, is untrustworthy at best!

I play banjo and guitar and usually do my own work on my instruments, but I didn't have the right tool for a pickup installation. I needed the end pin hole on my guitar enlarged so I could mount a 1/4" jack end pin, but when I tried to ask a question about mounting the new end pin, he told me "I'm not going to tell you how to fix your guitar" before I was even halfway through asking the question (had he let me finish my question, he would have found out that I was going to ask if he had a cork washer for the 1/4" jack end pin). At this point he had lost my business, but he still went into his sales pitch (which included attempts at flattery) trying to sell me work on my guitar that I didn't need. I told Rick that I was taking my guitar home, and that he had lost my business because he was so rude to me, to which he responded with "I'm not going to answer your questions; we're a guitar repair shop." This was particularly shocking to me because every other luthier/repair person I've ever dealt with has been extremely helpful and answered all my questions.

Its a shame that I can no longer recommend Beacock Music to people because the rest of the store staff have been very helpful in the past. After my experience with Rick Reiss, I can no longer trust the quality of their instruments or the quality of...

I walked in to check on the status of my account to rent a Trombone for my son. Because I did it online first.

The first employee that helped me, really didn’t. He looked at my account and said it’s not done yet & left it at that. Had some attitude and he was short with his responses. Didn’t like that experience at all.

Before I left I had another question & a gentleman named, Jesus helped us. He was very positive, welcoming and super friendly. He looked up my account & worked on it immediately. Which I was shocked because the first employee told me No & I would HAVE to wait until they contacted me. Mind you my son is joining band late so we wanted to secure his instrument as soon as possible. Jesus not only spoke to us parents but he spoke to my son because it was for him. Jesus made my son’s first experience amazing. We even all cracked jokes and it was just all around the best experience. We are so thankful Jesus was the one to help us & this store needs more employees like Jesus.

Score would have been a 5 if it wasn’t for the first employee giving me a negative experience when I first walked...

Purchasing a musical instrument can often be confusing, what instrument fits your needs, style of play, as well as your budget. I have had the pleasure working with the Director of Band and Orchestra Sales, Wayne Thompson at Beacock Music. My daughter was in the market for a new saxophone and although I did some research, Wayne was quite instrumental in determining my daughter's needs and helped determine what instrument would be the best fit for her. As often is the case, a decision to buy a musical instrument may be personal as well as functional. Wayne Thompson spent many hours offering suggestions and possible solutions to my daughter before she made a decision. If you are in the market for a musical instrument, I strongly suggest you contact Wayne, set up an appointment to discuss your wants and needs. You will not be disappointed. As often is the case, adjustments may be required when purchasing a new instrument. Wayne insisted that I contact him to set up this appoint as well. He took a proactive role when service was needed. An awesome experience and a big...
