Mill park was created on the sight of the massive 1989 Edwards Mill fire and near the sight of the former Kennebec Dam removed in 1999. It serves the community as open space and a gathering spot for farmers markets and community events such as concerts and fireworks. Dog walking area is well used and is a nice place to exercise the pooch as it is fenced, has picnic table, and porta pottie is nearby. Historic markers tell the story of the site and there is a short walking path where you can view eagles and osprey and leaping sturgeon during the run. There is a hand carry for canoes and kayaks but is not recommended for novice paddlers as current is swift and it is easy to get driven into rocks or the nearby bridge from which emergency rescue may be needed. Over all this is a needed open space for the cushnoc heights neighborhood but not a tourist destination. I enjoyed my visit as a local history walk but there are much nicer places in Augusta to walk or have a picnic if you are just visiting. There is a covered area for shade but nothing really for children. 4 stars for preserving open space and respecting the past. I'll add the fifth when the Kennebec rail trail moves north and connects to this gem in...
Read moreMill Park is a multi-use outdoor location which sports a large scenic field for walking, a large metal gazebo for events in inclement weather, has a dog park, and a new Bagel Shop (Sand Hill Bagel Co.) within walking distance.
The park itself runs parallel to the beautiful Kennebec River. Mill Park offers a sunny, central, outdoor, venue for community and private events. Mill Park serves as a great meet-up location for friends, a central location for our area Farmer's Market, and serves as the venue for the Capital Area Free Concert series.
Mill park has 1-2 portable toilets on site (during the Summer) and has plenty of parking. I like to grab a bite to eat at one of Water Street's renowned restaurants before using Mill Park as a scenic walk to burn off the calories...
Read moreConvenient location, so a lot goes on here, including Waterfront Wednesdays in summer, 4th of July fireworks, and other special events. Farmers market held her spring to fall. The dog park is great and the paved walking path is nice. However, don't let your kids go down the yellow metal stairs. Creepy people lurk down there. There is often drinking and lots of litter there. Be wary of the porta potties too, not always clean and...
