Santa Cruz Market — Attraction in Ventura

A Hidden Gem. Helpful and courteous staff. Great deli with many delicious and reasonably priced items: Greek salad, baba ghanoush, tabbouleh, lentil salad, quinoa sweet potato and superfood salad, other salads, fatayer (pastries filled with meat, cheese or greens) and tempting desserts including Turkish delight. Fantastic rotisserie chicken. Sit-down eat-in restaurant and a hot food counter with a great selection of Mediterranean dishes (kebabs, shwarma, etc) plus enormous and incredibly tasty portions - one take-out box typically lasts me two meals! I normally get the chicken kabob plate or the half chicken plate and I sub Greek salad for the hummus. (Though their hummus is high quality as well.) Their tabbouleh is very good...

Friendly and helpful butcher with great meat selection. Extensive choices in alcohol, beer and wine. Interesting grocery filled with a lot of hard-to-find Middle Eastern items, like semolina, dry goods, different sizes of bulgur, spices, cookies, preserves, fava beans (fresh & dried), lebne, manousche, offal, soup bones, cheeses, green almonds and sometimes green garbanzos too. And their on-site restaurant often has monthly beer and wine tastings with a giant feast-worthy spread of homemade food that's included...

Rude staff, bad service, over priced, over cooked, under seasoned. This place used to be so much better. Maybe the service is better when the manager is not tending the bar and talking on his phone the entire time. He forgot portions of the order, my food came out over cooked but cold. When a fraud alert stopped my credit card from being charged he slid my card down the bar to me loudly stating it was declined then turned and walked away continuing his phone conversation on his ear pods. I used to frequent this place when it first opened years ago and I lived down the street. It was my favorite spot, and where I stop in for a quick bite when I'm in town .The time before this, just a week prior, I came in for a pint and a female wait staff became verbally annoyed and then aggressive with a vagrant making everyone in the bar uncomfortable. Came here because of a flyer that was mailed to my house.... apparently a long time ago because the prices are higher for the meals now. Standard with inflation now, so not criticizing them or knocking a star. I got the gyro supreme and it was delicious. The pita was not great, but it did not stop me from eating it all. Healthy serving size. Register lady was nice enough to still honor the old coupon.

I meandered around the store and found them to have a nice large liquor section. Also garbanzo beans by the pound.

Staff was all nice, store was well kept and stocked, food was great, there was a sports bar attached, and they have their own (small) parking lot. Fantastic all around. I'll be coming back to support this...
