This is a great place for a nature walk, without all the nature. By that I mean, there is a trail and bridges so you don't have to get muddy or buggy and can still enjoy being very close to the plants and animals in the area. Don't know if I can post a video, but if I can and if you have a minute, check out this video of a tortoise (or whatever) digging in super slow motion. The camera wasn't in slow motion, the tortoise was. It takes about 10 seconds for the first shovel and 10 more for the second. I don't know how long it was there shoveling, but it was gone by the time I walked back. But this was happening within a few steps of the path. But, this was before "safer at home" and the path was not as busy as it is now (April-May 2020) For access, the Linear Park has good markings for distance, lots of benches and shady areas for resting. If you start at the zoo, there is plenty of free parking. If you start at Pineda Causeway, there is free parking, but kind of dodgy shoulder location. If you start at Turtle Mound, not much parking,...
Read moreThis is a unique “park” which starts just past the entrance to the Brevard Zoo. There are a limited number of parking spaces at the start. The park (which is actually a trail) used to be just a 1 mile boardwalk but it has recently been extended and goes all the way to Turtle Mound Road (about 3 miles out and 3 miles back.) The trail has boardwalk alternating with asphalt walkways bordered on each side with fencing. Along the way there are mile markers every half mile both going and coming. There are many benches and garbage receptacles as well as informative plaques. The trail winds its way next to Interstate 95 and sometimes the sounds of traffic are a bit loud but at others you only hear the sounds of nature. It’s a great trail to walk/ride/run. It’s been four years in the making but it was well...
Read moreThis is a wide walking/biking trail that has a solid surface for the entire length. Part of it is asphalt and part is elevated walkways. It is smooth and does not have any trip hazards. I really like this trail and appreciate that it is there but there are 2 things I would like to see. One is for the bike riders to use bells or some other method to warn walkers that they are approaching from the rear. It would be very easy to get hit by a bike simply because you did not know it was approaching. The other thing is that I would like to see a parking area added at the trail entrance on the Pineda Causeway extension. Right now, people park along the roadway. Considering the amount of traffic in the area, that seems potentially...
