Welcome to a space where the bustle of the city and the calm of the bay greets you with a calm like no other. PHPNA is a retreat that surprises you from the trailhead Bridge on Shore Dr down to the sweeping views, calm lakes great for bird watchers, and tributary shorelines for fishing, and the BROCK center for waterway conservation and educaron.

The trail is easily accessible through multiple access points throughout Marlin Dr with Shore Dr and Brock Center easily identified as the two main end points of the trail. Obey the neighborhood parking signs but there are plenty of spots along the road.

The trail has a mixture of flat, light rock, and some wet areas. This would be an easy hike for all ages but is only wheel chair accessible on the trailside by the nature center with all terrain wheels.

This trail takes an average of 30-45 min to complete and will excite a variety of outdoor enthusiasts. There are several benches on the trail to enjoy the views of the waterway.

Hikers with dogs are reminded to keep them leashed and trash cans and dog waste stations are at the top of most trail heads. The Leave No Trace guideline is used to preserve the outdoor area.

This is definitely one of the best areas to enjoy nature...

Edit 8 mo later: reduction to 3 stars. Curious as to what demons approved the removal of 100s of pinetrees along one side of the trail. Glad to have known this place PRIOR to its destruction. You fools do realize trees provide shade, oxygen, nesting for birds, insects, and help keep the AIR CLEAN. Wayy too many clowns in "VB" over the past 10 years smh

Edit 11 mo later: There should really be a law against bringing dogs to nature preserves/natural fresh water areas, or even strict laws against dog ownership. Its very disturbing to see wild animals trampling in FRESH WATER. Then minutes after a family w young children goes & gets in that SAME water. If you dont have a doggy pool, or even salt water pool for them, YOU DONT NEED A DOG. People in this area are very off in the head..its quite disturbing.

Beautiful, serene place. However the pyschopaths of VB should be reminded, this is NOT a designated DOG BEACH OR DOG PARK. Only lunatics trample their dogs in fresh water that PEOPLE AND YOUNG CHILDREN swim in. Hampton has a designated dog beach area, take your...

It's cool that they have an environmental center here and all the trails were nice. We didn't go down to the main beach area because it was a little busy but there's tons of little areas to let your dog run around in the water.

I got bit by a bug I've never seen before like a cross between a cricket and a mosquito - it freaked me out but that's nature so I won't fault them for that. What I do fault them for is the lack of drinking water sources.

It's obviously a popular spot to walk dogs (we saw at least 7 dogs on the trails in the short time we were there) and there was almost no where to get good drinking water. There was a sink for cleaning crab/muscles or whatever it is people need to clean there and it had cold and hot so I ran the cold for a second and used that to fill my dog's bowl but I didn't like that they didn't have water fountains especially by...

This is probably the best trail in Virginia Beach. It is so quiet and never very busy. You may pass one or two people, or you may not see anyone else, depending on what time of day you go. You get a great view of the water no matter where you are on the trail and if you walk far enough you will end up at a (very) small private beach. It is the perfect place to take dogs to swim, especially if they are just getting used to the water. It’s warm and there are no waves. There are also tons of birds to watch as you walk!

Beautiful walk today. Several parts of the trail were covered in water, but only about a couple of inches to maybe 5 inches deep in some parts. We came across a hatchling diamond back terrapin. We took his picture and let him continue on his way. It was hard to tell, but it looked like it was possibly injured on it's shell or It might have just been some river muck. We didn't want to disturb it too much. I had never seen this type of turtle before today.
