I've been coming here for over two years launching a boat and parking. The boat and trailer is just short of 30'. Being a little long I've always parked up top In the overflow lot to be courteous of others as my trailer would stick out beyond the spaces in the isles if parked below in the regular lot. I've always parked up there in a corner or out of the way of equipment as well. We drive from 5 hours away. Sometimes we get in late or stay out overnight on the boat. We've always came back and paid them first thing in the morning if they were closed when we arrived, or if we departed the next day. I have always went above and beyond to stay out of anyone's way, be honest and pay them for any calendar day I was parked there. All was well until today when I unexpectedly needed to run an errand to get some supplies. I thought it made more sense to leave the trailer there instead of dragging a 30' trailer through town. I had paid, put the boat In the water and came back to use the truck to run across town. I unhooked the trailer in the overflow lot, put my receipt and phone number in a clear bag and taped it to the trailer. Shortly after I departed they called, and wow, you would think I committed a felony. To be fair, in the past the staff has always been nice to us. But apparently unhooking is a severe infraction. Staying overnight seems to be a gray area. In short if your a local and your going out for the day it's a great place. If your driving from hours away and may be out on your boat overnight or need your truck, probably better find a different place. I don't blame the employees, it's just the typical government run establishment red tape that is associated with anything funded by your tax dollars. Here we were out of the way, paying daily and not causing any problems, but no that didn't fit the exact idea of their S.O.P. A truck hitched to a trailer is fine, unhook the truck for an hour and your a criminal. Meanwhile people are overrunning our boarders, burning American flags at Grand Central Station in DC with no apprehension or chastisement. While the polite, tax paying citizens like myself are being villianized by the local government at our nation's tax funded parks. Took the trailer and truck to bubbas and they happy accepted the daily fee in exchange for parking there. No BS or hard time. As always free enterprise and civilian sector excel beyond the stifled, red tape ridden operations and entities run by...
Read moreThe Boat Ramp the staff and the parking lot is nice. The safety of your property while paying to use it is horrible. We’ve had our boat trailer’s tires slashed Twice now. The 1st time this past Labor Day weekend. When telling the staff there’s no security cameras up and we were told the tires being slashed were a first to happen that they know of. That maybe minor trailers being backed into is all they knew. Someone’s brake lights were broken also we saw the broken tail lights all over the parking spot next to us. When making fellow boaters aware to check there trailers before loading I had people say they had damage to there trailers from being ran into. We were told by staff that they were gonna start monitoring the parking lot more. Well today we had another trailer tire had holes put in them. This time it was a slow leak that put us down in a parking lot down the road. Both times these instances occurred during 10:30- 4Pm in broad daylight light. This is horrible and unbelievable that this happens so much at a public ramp with paid employees monitoring it. We just wanted to enjoy a day on the water and not having to worry about flats tires and having to find one on a Sunday evening when places were closed. When speaking now about this ramp to friends it was made known that another worry is people breaking into cars there also. The city of Va beach really needs to do better for this lot and protection of peoples property. Not sure if we’ll l be back it’s too much of a worry of personal property and money, time and stress. Please be careful of your property while being...
Read moreThere are 2 wide boat ramps with lots of dock space for incoming and outgoing boats to tie up to as well as a sand launch for kayaks and canoes. Make sure to visit the pay station associated with the lot you park in to enter your vehicle plate number and pay. The machine accepts debit for sure not so sure about other forms of payment. If you're new to this location be extremely careful when navigating the waters in Lynnhaven inlet. If you're not within the channel markers it's really easy to run into the sand bars. Some areas are only inches deep even at high tide. Kayakers beware of the bridge during outgoing tide. It's not uncommon for the current to drag unwilling kayakers into the bay. Conditions only get worse with a strong S SW SE wind and can be nearly impossible to paddle against when combined with the outgoing tide. There is beach access parking for cars without trailers which also requires patrons to pay. As with kayakers, the same caution applies to beachgoers who attempt to enter the water near the bridge. The current can get strong and this is an extremely dangerous place to wade or swim. Pay close attention to posted signs and warnings as some areas are off limits and swimming/wading is restricted. Violators WILL be fined if caught. I would not recommend this place to people who aren't familiar with the area or the dangerous conditions associated with the strong currents associated with the running tide. If you do decide to visit, be safe and keep a close eye on everyone...
