This is a very nice park! It was originally made during the Great Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps. So you also get a little bit of history education by going. There are well-marked trails that can give you a short walk or a long hike. Also while you're are here you can visit the Nature Center which is especially to be popular with small children. They also have many baseball fields. The most interesting part is they have archery ranges. If you are into archery this is the only place I know of in the Richmond area for you can go and play for free. Yes I said free! They also have a very nice dog park if you want to bring your dog for some fun play. If you have small children they also have a swing set and playground for them. There are also areas that you can rent for an outside party or barbecue, but remember that there is no alcohol allowed. So overall it's a great...
Read moreIt was a pleasant surprise. I normally explore north of the river where I live but decided to go on an extra journey to Rockwood and it was very cool. There's a lot of areas of the entrance way as you wind around parking lot that are for picnics and families. Also it was consideration for pedestrians as the pavement where the cars wind around the lot also accommodates walkers. There is a nature center that has an area for group and camp meetings, an archery area, and lots of interesting plants and trees if you're into botany. I did the walk down one of the trails and the few people that I ran into were friendly. It's a great place if you're looking for a nice mix of solitude without being completely isolated and having activities on hand as well as a center area where I believe there are...
Read moreOverall a very nice facility! There is a nice park for the kids, w/ a playground. Some swings, an in ground merry go round (which I haven't seen one of these things in forever, lol! telling my age some...) slide, jungle gym etc. There are also numerous benches to sit at and relax, and beautiful walking/running trails to explore. It can take a little time to get around this park. There are 5 baseball/softball fields here (maybe more), so if you have a game, add 10 minutes past your normal cushion. Said fields are VERY nice btw. Plenty of trash cans around as well. The concession stand is nice and so are the bathrooms. Plenty of regular and handicapped parking. Overall, a very nice place w/ many...
