Mugshot Coffee — Restaurant in Midlothian

Went to Mugshot on the second day they were open and had a great experience!

My expectations were pretty low. I thought they would be a gimmicky coffee shop propped up by their mug shot coffee cup idea but boy was I wrong.

I got their iced cookie butter latte and my wife got the hot peppermint mocha latte and they were both phenomenal. I absolutely loved that these drinks were not overpoweringly sweet like other coffee shops. They were the perfect level of sweet and had great flavor.

My wife and I both got egg burritos, mine with chicken sausage. While the food was nothing super original, I will say that it came out very hot, and the burritos were stuffed full with egg and were very good.

The interior had tons of seating which was very nice. The only mild negative thing I’ll say is that the inside still feels a little unfinished. I am sure that it will get better with time.

It was only the second day and they were still working out some of their processes but the staff was incredibly friendly, and everything moved very quickly.

We were needing to waste a little time and decided to pop in for some coffee. Seeing the danish in the case, I knew I needed to try it.. and, boy, am I glad I did.

Me: Iced Nutty Irishman with whole milk and whip; Cream Cheese Danish

Wife: Iced Cookie Butter Latte w/2%; Untoasted Everything Bagel w/regular cream cheese

First: the danish, the star of the show. Incredible flavor and even more incredible lamination. Like, hands down phenomenal. Latte was also fantastic, but hard to hold a candle to that danish.

Second: cookie butter latte had great flavor, but again, the bagel was the star. Clearly, not a store bought bagel. It was fresh and had plenty of everything. Cream cheese was creamy, delicious, and fresh.

Don’t even get me started on the staff! So friendly, kind and helpful! They truly seem like they are happy to be at work, which says a lot.

We are so glad we decided to pop in! Now it’s your turn to get booked at Mugshot Coffee. Don’t forget to get your own mugshot taken while you wait (the very short period of time it takes them for tickets)...

Clean and spacious, it's set up with booths, a hangout couch, and tall tables w/ stools - it's clear that Mugshot wanted to make a space where their community feels welcome. They were testing a blonde roast when I walked in this morning and happily handed me a tester cup so I could enjoy the light, almost citrusy notes.

I had a delightful iced dirty chai that wasn't too sweet, and automatically had a two shot espresso pour. Looking forward to having an appetite next time so I can try one of the pastries!

Edit: I have to take one star away from my review as someone who loves artists and is a die-hard RVA art scene supporter. I bought a bag of coffee this morning and was disappointed, upon review later, to see AI-generated art was used.

You want to be a productive, integrated part of your community? Commission our artists, don't steal their art via AI slop and sell it back to them. Shame on whoever decided this was a good idea. I would charge you to change your labels ASAP. Plain labels using your existing logo would...
