To start on a positive note very helpful staff besides the owner. went with my wife to look for some new items for our home. being that we love antiques of course we like to pick. my wife found this beautiful painting of a hunt. red coats, dogs the works. we saw the $52.50 she asked if it was worth it I looked at it... itās 1930ās has damage, and was crudely put on a new stretcher that I would presume happen around 1980ās-1990ās considering the Materials used. That is how I date things. I took the painting to the front because of how big it was and how crowded the store was, I didnāt want to break anything by carrying it around. The painting was damaged but worth the $52.50 not much more no big deal. we wanted it. when I handed it to the lady (who I would come to find out is the rude owner) she was in awe of the painting and she looked at it so hard. she didnāt realize I was still in her vicinity looking at paintings near the register. I was Close enough that I heard her say āomg Iāve never seen thisā and then proceeded to look up the painting online then I could hear her get excited. I thought thatās odd but the price was set as advertised so it would be unethical to use a bait and switch tactic even if it wasnāt illegal. as I continued to shop we brought up 10 more items and kept looking the owner came looking for me to tell me something about a switched tag... confused I asked her to explain and she immediately got an attitude with me. I could tell she had prepared herself since she was rude when responding to my question and then ruder with the next. then I asked her to explain to me how the price tag was wrong. With my knowledge of antiquities I feel it was a fair deal and she said the painting had a tag on it that had been switched and the price was now over $500. I simply said well Iām sorry you advertised the other price but thatās the price Ill be paying. she yelled at me to get out of her store now! in front of other customers even employees looked at her weird. I was simply asking her to explain her reasoning for the outrageous price jump. Later after looking the Artist up some of his paintings in perfect conditions all original with the original stretcher and frame would sell from $700-$3000. that being said the painting had from old canvas, it was stapled to new wood stretcher, no frame and the original tack holes where not used to Restretch the canvas so the painting had holes all the way around the outside everywhere. hints why I thought that the price was fair... she saw a chance to make more money and tried to rip me off!
Bottom line is she noticed something was worth more then it was posted and tried to extort her new found knowledge on a new customer thinking I didnāt know anything... not sure itās illegal but itās super SUPER UNETHICAL!!
The correct way this should have been handled was for her to simply say it was a mistake and That sheās taking the item off the floor to be repriced. not try to belittle me into making a unfair purchase or to be kicked out without my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSome items left for sale were sold, but apparently mismarked with another sellers account. Someone else received the money for several of my items. When picking up items not sold, I received someone else's Kirby Vacuum and attachments. When discussing with owner at time of pickuo, she said that there is only one there so it was mine. It was 100% not mine. This one was beat up, different attachments, and missing new attachments. I left a full never used set of attachments. The ones I was told to take were even a different color and many missing attachments. So I have someone else's beat up items and no money for sale of my Kirby vacuum and new attachments that were in excellent shape, that must have sold. Other issues with disorganization also occurred. Other items lost. The list of all items left were never listed though I reported to the owner and another employee multiple times by phone and was repeatedly told they would straighten it out.
I will not use this consignment shop again and cannot recommend them unless you want to leave junk that you plan to Otherwise throw away. I left many high quality things that were valued at maybe 25% of their used value. I could easily have given 1 star, but gave 2 stars only because verbally they were polite and a few items sold, though for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreToday I went to @consignemtenvy in Walterborough. I was so excited I found this beautiful painting. As I took it up to the front to have them hold it while I continued to shop my husband over heard one lady talk about how she hadnāt seen it before and it looked original. Well all the sudden when we went to pay for our find we could no longer buy the painting for the $50 it was marked. Instead it was now āmis markedā and it was supposed to be $575. Funny thing is the label on the sticker accurately described said painting. They just suddenly found out it was worth more and no longer let us buy it. Wow. Never been lied to like that at a consignment store. As she proceeded to argue with my husband and say stickers must have been switched which also was not the case. Just left a huge pit in my stomach how absolutely rude they were. Also the painting had been sitting there since November. Weird how they didnāt catch the āmismarkā till they figured Out How much...
