Olde House Cafe — Restaurant in Walterboro

I had heard nothing but good things about this restaurant so my husband and I decided to give it a try while passing through Walterboro. Their website stated that they were open until 9:00 p.m. and we arrived at 8:00 p.m. However, they locked doors right after we entered. We took a look at the buffet and decided to order from the menu. After we were seated, we looked up at the a/c vent that was blowing directly on us and it was so dusty and dirty that we asked to be moved to another table, however, that should have been our sign to leave but we didn’t. We ordered and some of the items we ordered were not edible. When we were in the middle of eating the edible portions, a young girl walked to our table and asked if she could remove anything that we were not using from our table. We were never offered drink refills or asked if we would like anything else. They turned off all the lights as we were sitting there. We took that as a hint that they wanted us out of there. We got to the counter to pay and were asked if everything was good and I started to tell the cashier what my thoughts were but before I could even get a word out she handed me my receipt and told me to have a nice night. As we were walking out the door, all the workers came out right behind us getting in their vehicles and pulling out before we could even walk to our vehicle. Stopped for a quick breakfast, was seated immediately, put in a simple order for some breakfast ,place wasn't busy and the few customers there were already eating so I thought this is great it shouldn't take long to get my order. But after 45 minutes of sitting there with an empty coffee cup and no food I left I only saw the waitress one time and that was to be seated an order she brought the coffee but that was the last I saw of her. I'm guessing they were to busy socializing with other employees to worry about customer satisfaction I know I gave them 1 star but if I could of left review with neg. Stars I would have. Ill NEVER stop at this est. Again and I advise others not to even stop here because staff obviously don't care about customers only socializing with other employees. Big waste of time I thought I would get a good breakfast before hitting the road for a long journey to Texas but thanks to OLDE HOUSE CAFE I started my trip not only hungry but aggravated. Great comfort food. Lunch and dinner buffets featuring a wide variety of meats (fried chicken, roast pork, bbq, fried shrimp) and great sides. The mac n cheese is some of the best I've ever had, the mashed potatoes and gravy are fabulous, southern style green beans are wonderful and the salad bar is fresh. Save room for the AMAZING banna pudding with the most intoxicating whipped cream. They also make a chocolate crunch, or chocolate chip cookie version which also has the whipped cream topping. You can also order off the menu. The staff is super friendly and the service is great. The buffet offerings change daily, but you can call to inquire. The only concern I have is the cleanliness of the lavatories. As a person who worked in the Food and Beverage industry for 30+ years, is that if the lavs aren't clean, it's often the same with the kitchen. It is a concern, but I haven't seen or heard they have had any health department fines or closures. It just gives one a sense of uneasiness if cleanliness is important.
