Nicely maintained trails with clear blazes. Trail is flooded out in spots which requires some maneuvering from rock to rock (or nice waterproofed boots), but this is a hike! Can make the hike as long or as quick as you want and the view is so rewarding! Honestly, the reason I took off stars is that the top is trashed! Graffiti on every rock, broken glass everywhere (to the point that I would not recommend bringing a dog to the top for fear of them damaging their pads), cigarette butts, etc. Many times I've had to share the top with college kids drinking and smoking. Not pleasant. No blame on those that maintain the trails, I blame the ease of the hike and the proximity to a college. Overall, I just use this as a quick after work hike, due to its proximity to me. The views...

Awesome place to relax and walk through the pathways. It’s filled with various trails, lots of amazing animals and birds to find there, too… I am a girl and walking by myself may be a challenge sometimes but I feel it’s very safe. It’s close to the William Paterson university and it may not be known to many but once you are there you’ll love it. It’s so close to the city but somehow you may never discover it passing by for years… I must have passed by it hundreds of times till I realized there is an entire preserve there with various trails and rest stops, benches, etc. It’s an exciting open space area close to busy cities but tucked in the mountains and surrounded by lots...

Went hiking here in August for the first time. Took about an hour to get to the summit via the Yellow Trail from the Reservoir Drive entrance. It's a great place to hike but be aware that this section of the Yellow trail is mostly covered in stones and boulders all the way up, so you'll spend a lot of time looking down and watching your steps. Make sure you wear some good sturdy hiking shoes. Rocks can be slippery sometimes. The views from the top are spectacular, although on this particular day the view toward Manhattan was a bit hazy. Planning to go again soon and try the other trails. Make sure you get the free trail map from the New York New Jersey Trail...
