My son’s desktop computer stopped turning on, and I brought it to PCW Computer on New Britain Ave. in West Hartford, CT. They said it was not working anymore and I asked them if they had a replacement computer for sale. He sold me one on August 25th, 2024 and said it was equivalent to the one that stopped working. As time passed, I noticed the computer was not able to play games that I was playing on my previous one. I brought it back and asked them why it was not working right, and they explained to me that I needed a graphics card to play the games I was describing. So there is the first issue, he told me he sold me an equivalent computer to my previous one, but it was not.
After some discussion, I decided to purchase a graphics card, which was more than the original computer. On December 5th, 2024, I purchased a NVIDIA card for $446.67 with installation. I brought it home and it was working, but after a couple days, the computer stopped turning on, and I noticed that none of the lights were working on the inside of the computer. I unscrewed the wall and made sure all the connections were tight. All of a sudden, the computer turned on again. Time went on and I would have to continue to unscrew the wall and tighten connections in order to turn the computer on. Until it stopped turning on, which was January 19th, approximately 40 days later. I was not able to take it back to PCW until January 29th for them to look at it.
I received a phone call on January 31st, and the owner said it was the motherboard and it needed to be replaced. I told him you sold this to me in August, and it has only been 5 months. He said some parts do not last long. I was furious and raised my voice in disbelief. I told him I wanted a refund for the entire computer, because it has been nothing but trouble since I purchased it. He said he would not do that. I told him it worked when I brought it in for the graphics card installation, and that they must have damaged the motherboard when they were installing the graphics card.
Overall, my experience with this small business has been infuriating. Never have I felt like my money was well spent. The owner’s empathy to the issue of being sold a lame computer was non-existent. In summary, he sold me a computer that was not equivalent to my old one, recommended a graphics card that was worth more than the computer itself, and broke my motherboard while installing the graphics card and suggested I buy another motherboard. My recommendation to anyone who contemplates walking into this business would be to walk by and pretend it does not exist. You will save yourself from a stressful situation that walking through their door will...
Read moreBrought my sons IPhone X for screen replacement several times. Last year, my son dropped and cracked his iPhone screen. The repair would take a few days while screens were being ordered. Days later I picked up his phone and brought it home. Almost immediately, the digitizer had an issue where it would key in multiple times with one tap. Ex. When putting in password I would start by entering the number 2. Each time I did this it would enter several 2’s on its own 2222. Needed to go back and have that replaced. They did at no charge but the next screen had a similar intermittent problem was we lived with it until we could not anymore. Returned to have this screen fixed a few months later where I was charged again for a new one. I paid and went on my way. A few months goes by and the screen separated and fell off the phone. Like the glass fell off the digitizer. Returned to have a new one put on. Charged again for what is clearly a quality control issue. Not happy but I thought I would do it one more time and trade the phone in. Well, I did not get the chance. The screen separated again. A new screen that separates from the digitizer. I find time within a week to bring it back. Certainly they can see the screens they are using are flawed in a serious way. Hold on to you r seats. They wanted me to pay for another screen. I questioned that politely and reminded him that it was replaced just days ago for the same separating issue. He told me that someone is pulling the screens apart. Get that. We are pulling the screens apart so I can have more down time with my phone and take time out of my day to make yet another drop off and return pick up. The charge was $75 so I said I would gladly pay it for the last time. I would never do business at a PCW computer store again. Last, I will go out of my way to make sure people I know are familiar with my experience there. You were more convient than making an appointment with Apple but clearly a mistake in the end. Warranty your equipment and work on your customer service....
Read moreI usually don't write reviews, and I feel bad for writing a bad review for an independent store, but I was left unhappy with my service.
My iPhone screen cracked and I brought it in for a replacement. They told me to come back the next day to pick it up. When I came back, the touch ID did not work (which they repaired on-site). I left happy.
The next day, I noticed a crack underneath my screen and lost the ability to touch most of the screen. Apparently they put on a defective screen (well, things happen) so I brought it back. They told me to come back the next day and they'd check with the owner to see if it was covered.
I bring it back the next morning (my 4th trip to this store at this point) and they replaced the screen. When I got it back, the home button did not work at all. How can you replace the screen and not give it a basic functional test? When I'd picked it up, they told me that the technician who replaced it had already left and I'd have to come in the next morning.
So, on my 5th trip to the store, I finally pick up my iPhone with a working home button. The touch ID does not work (annoying, but at this point I'll take whatever I can get) and about 33% of the time, when I open it up, the phone does not register my touches correctly and it types the wrong buttons on the keyboard.
Everyone in the store was friendly, but this was pretty...
