I heard so many good things about Platos closet, so I was obviously excited to see how this system works. This was also the closest one to me.
I read on their website of what they were looking for, such as different t-shirts, jeans, name brands, stuff that people would want, or that's in style. So I did some research and then after getting a pretty good idea, I sorted through my clothes to get 2 hampers full of nice name brand clothes.
This includes women's and men's clothes, jeans, shorts, t-shirts, cardigans, jackets, sweaters, brands like Polo, Abercrombie, Hollister, Levi's, American Eagle, H&M, Michael Kors, Old Navy, Nike, etc.
So I loaded up my clothes, folded, and freshly washed, and drove over and dropped of my clothes. Found out there would be a day wait, so I still left them there and signed in. Said they would message me when to come back.
I get a message middle of the next day, and drive about 30 minutes to see what their offer was. I arrive and they pull out 1 item they wanted.... out of the over 75 items I brought they picked out 1, which was a paid of slippers of all things. So obscure and weird that they decided to choose. They gave me 3 dollars for the item. I was shocked. I stood there and looked at the cashier. I figured they would have taken some jeans, or nice t-shirts, of which they took none. To be disappointed is an understatement. I will never go back to a platos closet if this is the service they provide. If they don't want specific items, list it on the website better, or inform me before I give you all my items.
I wasted my time, and the 3 bucks didnt even pay for my gas there and back... didn't know what to expect before going there. But I definitely know what...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently went to donate items a staff member advised me they would reach out within two hours advising me on the value of my items. Two hours later received a text quote is ready upon arriving I was advised they would not take and or accept and or offer nothing for my items. Mind you half the clothing I brought in was brand new the other half is old and used and totally understand why this wouldnāt be acceptableIe.
I had coach shoes only worn once , express, and Calvin Klein items there were never worn. Perhaps for the type of clients that purchase clothing at this store these brands arenāt what people look for?? I would never recommend this place to anyone and or shop with this company. Good news I found a place that was more then willing to take these nice things and provide some cash as well not there sister company clothes mentor or whatever itās called.
In addition to this I have recently read reviews regarding Discrimination among those who attempt to bring items to sell to Platoās Closet. I couldnāt help but notice that while sitting writing this review a White couple received money for there items that they donated, while myself being of a different race and another couple that was also of a different race didnāt receive any cash for items donated. I looked in each basket of items and saw that they looked quite the same. I cannot help but believe the claims that this Bussiness only caters to white individuals that choose to bring there clothing. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB as well so this can get further investigated. I am hoping this isnāt that case but canāt help but take note of what I am seeing and claims that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI mostly shop there but have in the past sold some unwanted things and really wasnt concerned about the money they gave, but was in a couple weeks ago to sell some jewlery(womens/ men but mostly womens) brand new still with tags and in package, its papparazzi jewelery( if ur not familiar its really nice good quality in which its only 5$ each and some special pieces that sell for 25$) so i took 25 pieces of the 5$( a variety of earings, necklaces, rings, bracelet) and 2 of the 25$ necklaces) so altogether worth 175$, so i shopped while waiting and ended up by a sweatshirt for 14$ and the cashier asked me if i recieved the text for what i was trying to sell which i hadnt so he went and got the paper. Now i did know i wasnt going to get 175$ but had a number in my head that i was comfortable with. I was absolutely shocked and honestly insulted by what their offer was, a measly $3.30. He asked me if i wanted to apply towards my purchase which i just laughed which didnt seem to phase him one bit. Now if i do that math it comes out to.12 cents each they wanted to give me lol. Do im trying to figure out what equation they use to come up with that. I can honeslty say if they wouldve offered 20 to 40$ for everything i wouldnt have taken it but would've understood but $3.30 thats really insultive to where i will not shop there. They dont respond to these reviews as ive seen other negative ones and assume there's no defending on their part that they can justify. 3.30$ im still lauging (...
