Athens Park — Attraction in Willowbrook

I used to love going to this place. But it has turned into a cesspool of homeless people everywhere. The parking lot on Broadway has a lot of illegal activities going on in it. People are selling and smoking drugs. Condoms are on the ground everywhere in the parking lot and on the street from prostitution. People are camping out in their cars, smoking and doing drugs. The parking lot smells like marijuana, urine, and dog poop. We who live here can't even park at the park because the people sleeping in their cars have taken over the entire lot in the front and back, and around it. When families want to go there to play a game, they have to park in our neighborhoods, taking up all the parking spaces. Multiple homeless people are camping out at the lunch tables. Which needs to be sanitized and washed. They got all their junk and belongings all over the tables. It looks a mess. People are living in tents after hours. Starting campfires. Guys hanging out of the cars, catcalling women jogging around the park. A bunch of guys are looking like they are playing cards at 2 am behind the gym and tennis courts. This place used to be a nice place to go to. It still is. The park generally looks nice and has a lot of activities going on in it. They just need to get rid of the bad element that is messing it up for us residents & families who can't even enjoy it. Visited Athens park with my little one for some play time and exercise. Upon my arrival at 11am I saw atleast 20 kids playing. I thought great other kids for my little one to socialize with. When I walked up to the kiddy play area stunned to see trash scattered all over the play area pizza boxes, swisher sweet wraps, plastic bottles. I looked around and no one seemed disturbed that there are blunt wraps everywhere. My 2 1/2 year old accidentally picked up a half eaten pizza. Man i slapped it out of her hand and maeched to the administration office. I saw a day camp worker by the name of Jo*(see was wearing a green shirt). I politely expressed my complaint and she said its summer time and day campers dirty the play area. Not much she can do about it. She stated the park was cleaned earlier. She then told her daycampers to come in for Lunch. I thought to myself you actually have 6 year olds playing in an area with blunt wraps and trash all over the place. Man I wouldn't pay for daycamp here. I rather go to Redondo Beach Rec park because I know the care about the safety of children. Parents Beware if you have a child under 4.
