Looking for DANGER at every turn?! Do you find that the dangers of the worst parts of the city could use something else like sharp rocks, large sticks and a moving body of water to "get rid of stuff" THAN CANBY PARK IS FOR YOU!!! It's dimly lit, largely unpoliced and under the control of a group of feral, drug dealing 7th graders with "emotional support issues", "conflict resolution impediments" and "violent encroachment tendencies"
WARNING!!! If these things don't appeal to your sensibilities than you may find Canby Park to be a poor choice of vacation destinations (or bus stops) for you. To this point I recommend the 301 bus to the beaches or at the very least stay on the 5 until it reaches Newport. Canby Park does not endorse, suggest or recommend: hiking, running, walking, crawling, biking, skating, rolling bouncing, playing (by self or with others/ with/out toy and/or equipment or otherwise moving in a jovial or nonthreatening manner. These activities are best performed in actual parks (i.e. valley garden, lums pond and white clay) not in open air crime parks where such actions could result in misinterpretation as gang signs or threats to the ruling...
Read moreBeautiful park with great scenery and sports fields. My family and I picnicked here and we easily found parking and benches. There was even a standing BBQ/grill!
My only complaint is no bathrooms!! When I visited, the Dunkin Donuts down the street said their bathroom was out of order. The only other place I found that was relatively close with a public restroom was the ShopRite. It took me about 30 minutes driving to get to a bathroom and back.
The road that runs through the park is a little weird. It's a one way road that snakes through the park grounds. Near the entrance there's a playground and some parking. Near the back of the park there's a football field, a basketball hoop, a good bit of parking, and 2 baseball fields. There's also a couple disc golf hoops(?)...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem of a park if you're looking for a disc golf course within the city limits of Wilmington. I have been to this park numerous times and it's never busy but always lively. No matter the time of day I've played a round, there are always a few other DG enthusiasts who are around for a quick wave to.
The park, paths, and outskirts of the disc golf holes are always well maintained and show a level of care that you would expect. At times, there has been trash/debris from folks who don't seem to care about the overall cleanliness of the park, but that's to be expected somewhat.
If you have an afternoon to spend out in nature, and you're nearby, you won't be disappointed in this beautiful area...
