We went to this muesem for the first time when they hosted Dino Day last week. It was the most overwhelming place/experience I've ever been too and that's saying a lot. I've been to notoriously packed places like Disney. I was honestly completely taken aback by how many people were allowed to enter the building. You could barely move, hardly appreciate the activities they had set up because you either A) couldn't get to them because of the crowds B) didn't have enough room to complete the activity. Kids were in stimulation overload from the hundreds of body's bumping into them. I was disappointed and after about an hour, we couldn't take it anymore and left. The staff were incredibly nice, and I think we're trying their absolute best to make the most of the crowds. The facility looked fine from what little I could see but geared towards an older group of kids versus little toddlers, in my opinion. The experience was so rough but I'm sure it's nice one days where there are not events such as this. I hope they change the way events are executed in the future to make it...
Read moreWhen looking at the pictures online I was a bit hesitant on this museum as it appeared a bit small, but wow was I pleasantly surprised at just how well packed this place was! Being near 30 and without kiddos, I was also a little hesitant in going as there appear to be many opportunities for young children on the weekend and let’s be real, when kids take over, it’s sometimes hard to get close enough to anything to really appreciate it, however, I found there was a nice balance for both kids and adults. I honestly had a lot of fun playing in some of the exhibits that offered hands on learning tools. A great place for both kids and adults! Also, rhe minature replications of Civil-War era Wilmington and Fort Fisher are top notch! There was so much to see and experience. Shout out to Susan who was behind the Native American replicas of tools. She was warm, receptive, and knowledgeable. The woman at the front desk today was also very friendly and helpful. The first Sunday of each month is complementary to locals and this was a great way to kick off my recent move to the area....
Read moreThis museum holds a special place in my heart. Some of my favorite childhood memories are going to this museum. Although it is fairly small compared to other Smithsonian-level museums, it has plenty to offer for different ages! The Cape Fear Museum is very hands-on, so I would recommend bringing hand sanitizer for after your visit if you have small kids, or are worried about high-touch surfaces. The environment encourages children to participate in hands on learning, but there's plenty for grown ups to learn, too! We had a great time, and it only took us(2 Adults) about an hour to see the whole museum. The museum no longer has a gift shop, which is a massive bonus for those of us that can't resist a...
