The waterfront and surrounding area is hip with lots of things to do. There is a brewery, artisan collectives, antique stores, coffee shops, boutiques, dining from budget to high end, and full of historic places to see. Some of the area is undergoing renovation/restoration for new restaurants and shops. There is something to do from the single bar seen to serene romantic moonlit strolls by shops and water. There is a lot of character and charm.
However, in recent stay downtown, there has been an increase in beggars and homeless that feel entitled to harass people who walk by or refuse to give them money. Just in a 3 hour period, we have been called all sorts of explitives. Summertime is alive with music/concerts, festivals & all different things to do. The museums take you back to the days of pirates & the Cape Fear Indians. I could go on & on!
