The waterfront and surrounding area is hip with lots of things to do. There is a brewery, artisan collectives, antique stores, coffee shops, boutiques, dining from budget to high end, and full of historic places to see. Some of the area is undergoing renovation/restoration for new restaurants and shops. There is something to do from the single bar seen to serene romantic moonlit strolls by shops and water. There is a lot of character and charm.

However, in recent stay downtown, there has been an increase in beggars and homeless that feel entitled to harass people who walk by or refuse to give them money. Just in a 3 hour period, we have been called all sorts of explitives. Downtown Wilmington would be better served to have shelters to help them, but to have strict rules to prevent them from harrassing those who bring...

Downtown Wilmington is my favorite place to go and live out of all the places I've live in NC & VA and visited all over the country I called downtown wilm home for many years and am on a couple more years of work before I get back there for good and can't wait. All types live here, the modestly rich, the upper-middle, middle, low-end, poverty, no judgements made on anyone either it's such an open and diverse part of town which is part of why I love it. you can find a cheap stupio apt or a nice 3bd house to rent or buy and so many things to walk to! bars, restaurants, shops, record stores, ice cream, coffee, children's museum, historical buildings and museums, festivals, parades, farmers markets, you never really need to drive anywhere! and all the history makes it an even more reason to visit and stay. I never...

I love Wilmington! From the beaches to historic downtown. There is so much to see & do. It's rich in history with buildings dating to the revolutionary period. Summertime is alive with music/concerts, festivals & all different things to do. The museums take you back to the days of pirates & the Cape Fear Indians. I could go on & on! If you get a chance take one of the many guided tours. It's worth it. Especially if you're a history buff. The River Walk is beautiful & tours are given on the battleship. It's just a great place to...

This part of Wilmington is beautiful and is wonderful for walking and people-watching. There are many places to eat and to procure alcoholic beverages. The Riverwalk is worth seeing and if you can find a place to eat on the river, you can see the ships and boats as they slide by. Many people we saw were walking their dogs and one of the restaurants we ate at had a bowl set out for them.

Attended the azalea festival the weekend of April 9th through the 11th. Our first time and it was really nice. Many vendors and live entertainment. Best part for me was the sunset from our hotel room. We stayed at the Hotel Ballast and to our surprise there was a firework show on Saturday night.
