On April 8th between 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m. I took my mother and my 2-year-old son and myself to my favorite place to eat chicken nachos in the past. The front door attendee set us upstairs first right when you walk up the stairs at a four-seated table which was no problem. The server came. We placed our order. My mother ordered the blue burger with house chips. I ordered the chicken nachos with tomatoes on the side and a kids shrimp plate with french fries. My son got a Sprite. My mother got a Coke and I got a water. Our server was a young woman. She had dark hair. She came, took our drink order and proceeded to take our food order because we were already ready and knew what we were coming to eat. Our food came out within 5 minutes. She went to the table next to us which had a table of about five to six people. She held my son's plate which was the shrimp plate and my mother's burger plate in her hand and proceeded to talk to the table with our food held in her hands spitting over our food breathing over our food just to communicate with the table and talk. She then eventually turned around and I mentioned to her that was very rude and disgusting that you held our plates at another table. Talked over our plates laughed over our plates spitting in our food talking over our food and then turned around to hand us our plates a minute later. That's disgusting. She said okay. I'm sorry she handed me my plate immediately. I looked at the plate. There was a hunk of black curly hair in my plate on the top of my food which visibly you could see, but being it's kind of dark in there upstairs you can't see that good. I'm assuming I said there's hair in my food. She took the plate back apologized and asked what I like more. I took a minute to think because I was already discussed it by her service from when she was talking over my mother and son's food. So I told her I would not like a second order because I did not know if they would do anything to my food and it was just already disgusting with a hunk of hair in my food. So I proceeded to leave my mother there to finish her lunch and I walked across the street to get a pizza. Before I left my mother's cup was empty. She never came back to give us refills. She never came to ask us if we were ready for our check. My mother food was done before I left to go get pizza across the street. I was already sitting there for 10 minutes and she never came back to the table. When I left my mom came out and told me she had to literally ask her. Could she get the check and the young lady brought the check? She said she would be back shortly. My mom said please do not leave with my card because you have already been gone too long. Let's just go wherever and she'll continue to pay for her order because the girl was so rude did not offer any refills. The worst service I will never return back here again. The most upsetting experience because I used to love the chicken and nachos but that turned my stomach having hair in my food disgusting. I feel as this place has really went down or they just do not...

First time visitor to downtown Wilmington and decided to try one of the local eats. In this day and age I am selective of restaurants from wait times to local reviews and the draw of their appeal. The way this establishment looks and feels grabbed my attention looking over the fact of the crowd overtaking the walk way in front, the overwhelming aroma of cigar and cigarette smoke enveloping the air right outside the doorway and the very in your face no mask no service signage, we decided to partake in this restaurants offerings and after a "relatively" short wait time we proceeded to be seated.
Our waitress asked us for our drink orders and insisted on not writing them down ( table of over 8 people ) and upon return had several drink orders wrong and their soda machine was also out of syrup offering a seltzer water instead of ordered sprite. Once the drinks were squared away we proceeded to order our appetizers.
The beer and jalepeno hummus was bland at most not offering any contributing notes or aromas and aside from the jalepeno chunks present there was a absence of any other seasoning or complexity.
The buffalo shrimp was lacking a quantity suited to the cost as well as size of party but there was definitely a presence of sauce but the breading on the shrimp had quickly absorbed the sauce lacking any crunch or desired texture.
The loaded fries was the biggest disappointment as it lacked any respectable amount of toppings or attention to what makes an appealing fry.
Lastly I will comment on my own entrée to which I ordered the double cheese burger. By the description and cost I expected an experience and received yet again disappointment. I asked for their signature scottish ale bbq sauce just in case I needed a rescue and subsequently in fact did need it. The patties on this burger were reminiscent of a fast food chain and I can assure you for this price point I was not loving it! Lacking in texture, char, depth of flavor but did excel in moisture. The cheese was a depressing sliver holding on to dear life as it melted into the grease of the patties. The what I presume are house made pickles were actually not bad but the only thing that saved this meal was the surprisingly good beer based bbq sauce which I did enjoy.
The fries as stated from the appetizer were nothing to write home about and if actually prepared in a certain way may actually be good but not from this experience. All in all it was a dissatisfactory experience and next time I visit Wilmington which will be soon I will venture elsewhere for my hunger...
Read moreI’ve visited this establishment many times for many years. The food is amazing and my absolute favorite is the shrimp and grits. Oh. My. Gah!! For the last three to four visits I have came in with my twelve pound service animal, who is very well trained and behaved. Unfortunately, there always seems to be some sort of harassment from staff members and yesterday was the final straw for me. I don’t find it necessary to get into the details but I will say that management and each member of staff truly need some educational training concerning service animal and handler rights. Service animals perform a specific task based on their handlers needs and it’s very inappropriate for a staff member to walk up to a handler and interrupt when the animal is performing a specific task. Some animals are task trained to smell food before it enters the handlers mouth due to food allergies. And there are appropriate ways to ask handlers instead of rudely walking up causing an embarrassing situation for the animal and the handler. For every action there is a reaction. And the handlers responsibility is to always protect their animal. Do better. Kindness goes a long way. It’s very simple. For this reason I will not be back. I’m also a retired Navy veteran and when I asked about a military discount the server gave me the rudest no we don’t do that. Jeez, it was just a question. So let’s see, staff need service animal education, finally got the beer I ordered when I was literally two bites from being done with my meal (and I ordered it with my meal), rude staff! Nope, my friends, myself and my service animal will...
