My mom and I very much enjoyed taking a tour with Erica recently. The price was $12 a piece and included the guided tour. Ours was just ourselves and one other guest so it was very nice and small. Erica was very informative and spent a good amount of time in each room explaining the history of the family, area, furniture, etc. The tour took about 50 minutes and included the house, a brief overview of the gardens, and the old kitchen. This is definitely worth the money if you are interested in history.

Yesterday 9.28.21 we toured the historic property, Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens in Wilmington NC. The tour guide was knowledgeable and engaging. If you are interested in the roots of America in its formative years you will learn a good deal about Colonial America, the significance of the house, who were the original owners and how business was conducted in those rough and rugged times. Fascinating stuff! We learned how to “read” a portrait and that debtors prison was no joke.

Hunter, the Assistant Curator gave us a wonderful tour of this 18 century home. It’s interesting to note the builder lived 8 miles away on his plantation of 1000 acres. He used this home for entertainment, music, dancing and guest rooms. “The Headquarters of Cornwallis is this 2 story white weather-boarded structure built 1770. Cornwallis maintained his headquarters here while in possession of Wilmington in 1781.” There is a self guided walking tour of the Gardens on site.

I knew that Julia was a tour guide when I arrived early to visit the garden and then the historic jail house. Julia has an excellent presentation style and is very gracious about personal interests and needs. I highly recommend this historic site as it is filled with original building materials, furniture, and family heirlooms. Thank you Julia for sharing your kindness and passion for colonial family history.

We had a wonderful time at this museum. Our tour guide was excellent and told us so many stories and details about the history, property and the people. We are both historic architecture enthusiasts- so this is our cup of tea☕️. I’m also visiting from abroad and recommend this to anyone for a wonderful time and learning experience while enjoying downtown Wilmington.

Well worth the time and money to visit this historic home. The guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. I learned a lot about the home, the region, and culture of the time. The home has been mostly renovated and gardens are fantastic. The tour and garden visit lasted for about 90 minutes and we enjoyed every part of it.
