I just got home after my first trip to Rejuvenate Massage & Reflexology. I feel the need to leave a detailed review because as a person with Fibromyalgia, Scoliosis, and a mixed bag of local massage experiences, there wasn’t enough specific insight online for me to know exactly what I was getting myself into. I just decided to walk right in and see for myself!
I went in and asked the man at the desk if I could book a 90-minute massage, and to my pleasant surprise, there was a slot open right then and there. I assume now that he was one of the owners I just now read about in the reviews, and in retrospect, I wish I had made more conversation, but I ended up clamming up a bit.
I went into this completely blind and a bit nervous due to my lacking in social acumen and the fact that there wasn’t that much information online about the process or booking aside from their phone number and information about their different services. But boy, was I in desperate need of a massage.
After filling out a form with basic information that specified any health risks and areas that needed focus, I was guided by my masseur through the door to the back and was led to a space behind a curtain with a massage table that had dimmed lights and calm music playing that I found very relaxing. Then he walked out. Cue my confusion; I thought to myself, I’m pretty sure this has to be the part where I get undressed and lay on the table… or at least I hoped it was, lol. It might’ve been obvious to anyone else, but I’m glad I was right. Now, when I’ve gotten massages in the past, they’ve all been kept to pretty specific areas that I needed focus on, so I thought it would be okay to leave my compression socks and my heart rate monitor on since the focus would be on my back. To my embarrassment, they were promptly and wordlessly removed by my masseur as the massage commenced. I’m not sure if they could’ve been worked around in retrospect, due to the nature of the overall massage, but luckily I was okay with it! I just wasn’t sure how much body “full body” would be and was also briefly horrified that he had to take them both off himself.
After that, I tried to relax and enjoy the massage. Like I said, I needed one very badly. And WOW, the massage itself wasn’t like one I’ve ever experienced in Wilmington. The massages I have gotten have been a pretty hit or miss due to the difference in technique from therapist to therapist. I usually require deep tissue to break down specific deep pressure points that cause pain throughout my body, but it’s difficult to find someone who specializes in it due to the strain it puts on the masseuse. I was very impressed with my masseur’s skill. As someone with neuromuscular dysfunction caused by spine issues, it was a level of holistic treatment that you usually can’t find in a massage therapist or even a doctor without an established rapport/treatment plan. He even noticed the underlying issue and any areas of uneven muscle tension that lacked trigger points, without so much as a word. Even tension on my scalp and face that I would’ve never noticed. The use of heat and hot stones were amazing and there was an appreciated sense of attentiveness towards all my muscles and how they interact as a system, which is above and beyond considering my past experiences with deep tissue massage.
My experience was very positive, although I encountered some awkwardness due to a lack of detailed insight and minor communication difficulties stemming from a language barrier. I’m glad they list all of their different techniques on their website. I needed deep tissue, and definitely got DEEP tissue (I had 100% control over the amount of pressure BTW.) Overall, I was impressed by the professionalism and skill of my masseur. Additionally, I appreciated the assistance in translation when I needed to locate the restroom. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking quality massage therapy.
Keep in mind, I’m not a healthcare provider. Just someone who appreciates feeling taken care of despite a little bit of...
Read moreI recently visited for a much-needed massage, hoping to relax and unwind. However, my experience was marred by an unexpected and quite frankly, infuriating surprise. After my massage, I was informed that a minimum tip of 20% was required before I could even get my wallet out for the to pay, This was a policy that was conveniently left unmentioned when I booked the appointment or checked in.
As someone who believes in fair compensation for service providers, I am more than willing to tip generously for good service. However, being blindsided by a mandatory 20% tip left a bitter taste in my mouth, so the 30% that I was going to leave, I replaced with their 20% request. I value transparency and honesty when it comes to pricing, and this lack of disclosure felt deceptive and manipulative.
The massage itself was satisfactory, but the unwelcome surprise at the end soured the entire experience for me. I left feeling more agitated than relaxed, which completely defeated the purpose of my visit.
I strongly urge this establishment to be upfront about their tipping policy from the outset. Customers deserve to know what they are getting into, especially when it comes to additional costs. I will not be returning to this spa, and I caution others to inquire about tipping policies before making an appointment to avoid a similarly...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a new place in Wilmington to get your monthly massages, look no further! I’ve only been here twice and I’m already sold for the following reasons:
THE OWNERS - The owners are probably the sweetest couple I’ve ever met; and after each session ensure you’ve received the best experience! Very reasonably priced & affordable services!
THEIR TECHNIQUE - at this place they use a mix of European and Chinese medicine; so if you’re looking for someone to just rub your back and send you out the door, go somewhere else. If you want a tailored massage to remove your aches/pains, and to walk out feeling 1000% times better than when you walked in then this is your place!
JACK - Last bust most definitely not least, I almost don’t want to share this one, but my masseuse is the best masseuse out there! You can really tell when people enjoy their jobs and are passionate about their craft because it shows through their work! From my first appointment to my last, Jack’s technique is always a 10 out of 10! He goes above and beyond to remove the tension/knots from my shoulders. Jack is just amazing. Go see for yourself, but leave a couple of appointments available for me!
(and no this wasn’t a...
