I visited the coaster on a cool, drizzly Saturday with my family including two kids and two grandparents. I bought tickets in advance not knowing what to expect. I arrived at Fimfo and spoke to the agent at the check-in desk, who directed me to continue down the path to the coaster area. Simple enough!
The line for the coaster was pretty short, maybe 15-20 people long, and they were quick and streamlined about getting people on the ride. When one car came in, a new passenger was loaded up and sent on their way. I was the first from my family to go. I sat in the car, strapped on the seat belt, and was pushed onto the belt and was on my way!
The ride was a lot of fun, but do not confuse this with an amusement park-type thrill ride. It was full of mild drops, twists, turns, curves and climbs, right through the woods. It was always enjoyable and never felt scary or anything. I only used the handbrakes when instructed by the speakers. Our 5-year-old was strapped in with my wife and had an absolute blast. Our 9-year-old had his own car and loved it. Even grandpa with his bad back had fun and reportedly was no worse for wear.
The line was almost non-existent when we finished, so we shelled out the money and did it a second time. There was a bit of a delay, however, as the belt stopped, and the operators struggled to figure out how to fix it using the touchscreen system. During that outage, the line got very long. It was fixed eventually and the second ride was the same as the first.
All told, well worth it. Good bang for the buck and a very unique experience. Is it worth the drive out to New Braunfels from Austin just for that lone? Ehh, maybe. It was definitely a must-do if you're in the area though....
Read moreThis was a great alpine coaster inside Camp Fimfo. You’ll want to drive into the camp and follow the signs for where the Cliff Carver is to park. You’ll see three buildings and The Cliff Carver is in the middle of the general store and the Arts and Crafts building. If you are here just to ride the coaster, then you can access the Tavern and restaurant in the same building as the general store. They have lockers but you would have to bring your own lock to lock them. I saw other women riding the coaster with this purses so you may not need the lockers. The ride itself is about 10 minutes long and it goes so much faster than I was expecting however, you can brake when it feels too fast. You’ll need to sign a waiver to ride and be sure to watch the short safety video. They have height and weight limits so be sure to read the website for the details. We decided to purchase tickets on the website to ride again a 2nd time right away. Each cart has its own video but mine and my fiance’s video didn’t record which was disappointing. The first time mine recorded and but his didn’t and then the second time vice versa. We didn’t want to purchase the video if the other didn’t get one so we didn’t purchase the video snippets. We took some of our own photos of the experience and were happy with those. The area has a lot of gravel and uneven terrain so dress appropriately, watch your step...
Read moreWhat an incredible experience at Cliff Carver Alpine Coaster in Camp Fimfo! We bought our tickets and signed the waivers online, making the process quick and easy. The wait time was minimal, and soon enough, we were flying down the coaster, enjoying the perfect blend of nature and thrill—it really brought out the kid in me! I’d definitely do this again.
The staff was super friendly and helpful, but a special shout-out goes to Emma Rose! I lost my wristlet during the ride (with my car keys inside!), and Emma Rose went above and beyond, hiking through the landscape under the coaster to find it. She was determined and saved our day—we were stranded until she found it. Truly, she's a lifesaver! 🙌 Pro tip: Make sure to secure your belongings before riding! They have lockers you can use, but you’ll need to bring your own lock with you. Or you can leave your item with the staff.
While waiting for the search, we grabbed drinks at Squirrely’s Tavern, and while the drinks were great, the food was hit or miss. The fries and tater tots were solid, but we didn’t love the chicken wrap or mozzarella sticks.
One note: signage around the camp could be improved—if you’re not staying on-site, it’s tricky to find the coaster and food spots.
Overall, an amazing experience, and we’re incredibly grateful for Emma Rose’s help! Highly recommend this place for a fun and...
