When you are looking for that special place you spend time looking at web sites and reading reviews to find that special place. We thought we had found that place, a private cabin overlooking the river from our private deck as we enjoyed a glass of wine and our sorroundings, until we arrived. They had called us a few hours before we got there to tell us the office would be closed and the key was under the mat, we would be in cabin 14. So when we arrived we looked for cabin 14. Guess what, they aren't numbered, they only have cute names. We found a name we thought we remembered when we made the reservation and the key was under the mat. When we got into the cabin, wait, there are no cabins, there are a series of rooms in a long building (like an old motel) who all share a walk way that over looks the river, but wait, there was no overlooking the river because the trees and vegetation are so un kept that you can't see the river anymore, even though the pictures on the web site shows something completely different. We did see the collection of beer cans, pizza boxes and other trash just below the private deck overlooking the lost in the woods river, but wait, there is no private deck, a few chairs outside the room on a walkway that connects all the cabins, opps I mean rooms. Our room was suppose to have two queen beds, which it did, but they were located in the loft and the only way to get up there was to climb an attic stair like ladder that is a legal action waiting to happen. It was so steep and the steps were so small you had to turn your feet sideways to catch the step on the way down and considering the bathroom was on the lower level, a mid night trip to the can could prove to be fatal. With this as a concern we called the off site, now closed office and got to listen to the recording that told us just that, they were closed. We found an emergency number, called it and finally spoke to someone who was kind enough to send a housekeeper over to move us to the room next door. Although we appreciated the attempt, the result was terrible. The new room had a double bed and a futon type thing as beds, but wait, the website showed couches in the rooms, not what we had reserved for sure. The room also didn't have hot water! Called the emergency number again, someone showed up 30 minutes later, reset the hot water heater and about an hour and a half later the water was starting to get warm. So now here we are, in this room that doesn't come anywhere close to what we had seen on line and thought we reserved, sitting on a futon looking out the door across the deck, I mean walkway, towards the river, that can't be seen because of the vegetation. Yep this is what we reserved, I am sure of it. So now the sun sets and its time to catch a little sleep, I say a little because that is all that was possible. The extra bed, the futon, was like sleeping on balled up laundry stuffed in a big bag. There is no way this could be advertised as an additional bed, no way, but it was! The next morning we got to know the people in the next cabin, a I mean room, don't want to mislead, as every word they said could be easily heard through the wall. There goes privacy! Enough, we had had it. We were suppose to stay another night, but we packed up and found the off site office. We requested a refund for the 2nd night. They reluctantly refunded the second night, but wouldn't budge on the first night even though they down graded us to a cheaper room that they moved us to! ||||So, as I said, we spend a lot of time looking at web sites and reading reviews, sometimes to find out its all just male cow droppings, or maybe our experience was just a comedy of errors, or maybe just maybe we believed what we read on the website and just expected more than they could deliver, maybe! ||||With all this said, stay somewhere else!,Find a crappy little old run down hole in the wall motel and stay there, its got to be better and cheaper, than what we...
Read moreIf you are planning on staying here be sure to read the full review to manage your expectations. Starting with the positive, the only great thing that happened is the rain and we got to spend some great quality time with family and actually had a blast with that. The view was great and it is a beautiful part of the country. I only write reviews for exceptional or unacceptable services as I don’t want to see others spend time or money on things that are not even up to par and truly hope management would take the time to read since they weren't available when we called to ask for help.
To correct their website, there is not direct access to the river from the cabins as their website indicates, as there is a HUGE drop-off that is protected by gates. It IS NOT a pampered luxury, after check in you can expect to be on your own. Service is way below standard. You will not be able to fish, raft, kayak, or toob from right outside your door. “Never a dull moment”, unless you try to get help from the staff, even in the off season when they were probably about ½ capacity.
Prior to arrival, I had to call 3 separate days to re-request a confirmation email be sent, and the 3rd day I was told "You don't need it, I am looking at the screen and you are good." Even my request to have it faxed was declined. ATTENTION MANAGEMENT: Customers that are traveling would like documented information about the reservation, check/in, checkout, etc. Case and point we arrive at the address on their web site, only to find out the office is at a completely different location than was on their website, we were lucky enough to find someone that could give us directions. We got no friendly greeting , thank you, nor a “enjoy your stay” from either of the 2 girls that were in the office, who didn't seem to care if we were there or not, and we felt like we were interrupting their day.
The cabin was very hot so we cranked up the A/C to max, and after 2 hours of not cooling off, we called their after hours #, who did come out right away and cleaned the filter and turned on a second unit that was upstairs and it took about another 1 hour to have it cool down (total of 3 hours).
You will not be able to connect to their network without a network key, they will give you an ID & password, but without a network key, you can’t get to the screen to enter the ID & PW. I contacted their office and asked for the network key, and they replied that all you have to do is enter the ID & PW. I explained that I am not able to get that far until I enter their network key and asked if there was any one else in the office that could help me and she just repeated the same ID & PW again! I read the exact screen that I was getting and I was over talked and told that this is how it was supposed to be done. WOW! They did allow me to drive to their office to connect to their network, but refused to have anyone assist with their wireless network. It was very awkward walking into their office as they made it feel like I interrupted them gossiping about the issue.
We had strangers walk on our patio a couple times and made us very uncomfortable knowing that there is a bar right next door. Most of the patios are connected together as to form a community passage, taking away from the privacy...
Read moreMy husband and I found Hideout on the Horseshoe while looking for a quiet location for a quick getaway to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We decided to spend a bit higher than we normally would and we are very glad that we did. We booked one of the "Honeymoon Cabins" the Alamo. If you have mobility issues I suggest choosing a different cabin. This is a walk up location. Both honeymoon cabins are separated from the parking area at the end of a lovely stone walk that is vine covered. This adds to the feeling of privacy.
Location is beautiful with lovely views. Patios and decks overlook the River. Our cabin interior was very clean and comfortable. It appears that the coffee bar area, the AC, and ceiling fans have been recently upgraded. The furnishings are pretty and good quality. Living room and bedroom had smart TVs. I saw another review that claiming the bed is a full not a Queen. The bed currently in the cabin is a queen with a good mattress.
TIPS: The coffee bar area is well stocked but if you are like me and prefer your own grounds just get the small filters for a four cup maker and you are good to go. The cabin is not stocked with any dishes or utensils so come prepared with what you need to avoid a trip to the store. Who wants to spend time doing dishes anyway. 😉 If traffic noise is a concern for you I suggest bringing a fan or white noise machine. There is an attractive rustic barrier secluding the property from the highway but the traffic noise is still noticeable.
Overall we were very happy with our stay however, the exterior has some maintenance issues. I know they are rustic but several cabins had some trim falling off, the decks all seem to need to be resealed or stained. Our deck had water damage and the creeping vines are taking over the end near the bedroom french doors. We couldn't use that area. Some of the stones in the walk are shifting...
