I believe everyone is entitled to share their experience, and Iād like to offer mine regarding the hills I once hiked daily. For years, this space was a peaceful refugeāuntil one day I was nearly run over by four individuals on motorcycles. When I reminded them that motorized vehicles were not permitted on the trails, they became aggressive. Disturbingly, no enforcement followed, and that experience changed how safe I felt on the hills. My attempts to report this and other safety concerns were dismissed. I was even blocked from submitting further observations and violations. One individual, Deborah, claimed authority to remove the American flag from the peakāyet left another flag near the high school untouched. This inconsistency raises questions about oversight and priorities. Even more troubling is the perception that certain violators are allowed continued access despite their behavior, potentially due to favoritism. Over the years, Iāve rarely, if ever, seen anyone from the Crafton Hills Conservancy visibly managing or inspecting the trails. This lack of presence and enforcement undermines the purpose of a tax-exempt organization that claims to be committed to conservation and public safety. As a community space, these trails should be maintained not only for ecological protection but for the safety and enjoyment of all citizensāwalkers, hikers, cyclists, and runners alike. If the Conservancy, the City of Yucaipa, and San Bernardino County prioritized regular maintenance, clear signage, and active enforcement of existing rules, incidents like the recent cyclist being struck could have been avoided. The Conservancy Board should reflect those who actively use and care for these hillsānot individuals who seek the title but remain disconnected from the reality on the ground. Silencing community members who raise valid concerns is not just disappointingāitās contrary to the very mission of stewardship and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a pretty busy trailhead on the weekends. If you want good parking I would suggest getting here early. The trail itself is nice and can accommodate and level of hiker with it's kind of "choose your own fate" trails that go up and down over the hills or stick to the walking trail to take a gradual incline around the hills. There are mile makers the entire way so you know how far you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI would recommend this trail hike for walking or biking. There are three trails to choose from from novice to experienced. Beautiful views of Yucaipa and Redlands valley once you get to the top. It could be a dry mountainous walk no trees and I recommend taking a water...
