Stepping into the Vietnam National Museum of History, I embarked on a journey through the rich tapestry of Vietnam's past. Each exhibit, meticulously curated and thoughtfully presented, offered a glimpse into the nation's storied history and cultural heritage. As I wandered through the halls, I was struck by the resilience and strength of the Vietnamese people in the face of adversity. From the struggles against foreign colonization to the trials of war and conflict, the museum's exhibits illuminated the triumphs and tribulations of generations past. One exhibit, in particular, left a profound impact on me. It chronicled the human cost of war, showcasing artifacts and personal stories that spoke to the courage and sacrifice of those who fought and perished in defense of their homeland. Standing before the relics of a bygone era, I was overwhelmed by a wave of emotion, my heart heavy with sorrow for the lives lost and the suffering endured. Another exhibit celebrated the vibrant cultural heritage of Vietnam, showcasing traditional arts, crafts, and customs passed down through generations. Leaving the museum, I couldn't shake the weight of the experience from my mind. It was a poignant reminder of the fragility of peace and the resilience of the human spirit. Bảo tàng Lịch sử Việt Nam được chia thành 2 khuôn viên: khu A của bảo tàng tọa lạc tại số 1 phố Tràng Tiền, Hà Nội, và khu B nằm trên số 25 phố Tông Đản đối diện song song. Nổi bật ở khu A là một tòa nhà được quét vôi vàng, mang phong cách Kiến trúc kết hợp các giá trị của nền kiến trúc Pháp với các giá trị kiến trúc bản địa với phần mái cấu tạo theo kiểu mái chồng diêm hai lớp thường thấy ở các công trình tôn giáo, tín ngưỡng Việt Nam truyền thống. Bước vào bên trong tòa nhà hình bát giác, một không gian rộng và đầy chiều sâu mở ra trước mắt. Với diện tích trưng bày gần 4.000 m2 và khoảng 10.000 tư liệu hiện vật, hệ thống trưng bày chính của Bảo tàng được thể hiện theo nguyên tắc trưng bày niên biểu, lấy sự phong phú của sưu tập hiện vật làm ngôn ngữ biểu đạt chính, kết hợp giữa trưng bày phản ánh giai đoạn và sự kiện lịch sử với trưng bày sưu tập theo hướng trưng bày mở, bảo tàng giống như một cuốn sử sống của dân tộc Việt Nam. Trong không gian trưng bày tầng 1 là hệ thống các hiện vật chủ đề Việt Nam thời Tiền sử (cách đây 30 -40 vạn năm) và Việt Nam từ thời dựng nước đến triều Trần. Gây ấn tượng với người xem khi tham quan tầng 1 của khu A chính là 7 chiếc trống đồng: trống đồng Đông Sơn, trống đồng Ngọc Lũ, trống đồng Nông Cống, trống đồng Thành Vinh... xếp quanh một cột trụ lớn có khắc hình chim hạc và người Việt cổ, những biểu tượng văn hóa nổi tiếng của Việt Nam. Tiếp đến là không gian trưng bày các hiện vật quý của các công trình tôn giáo thời Trần, gồm những di vật lịch sử thời Trần gồm vật liệu, trang trí kiến trúc và hình ảnh của các khu di tích nổi tiếng như chùa, tháp Phổ Minh (Nam Định), đền Kiếp Bạc (Hải Dương), tháp Bình Sơn (Vĩnh Phúc)... cho thấy sự khéo léo của người Việt xưa thể hiện qua các công trình văn hóa, tín ngưỡng. Một mô hình rùa đội bia đá, 2 bên là tranh danh nhân văn hóa Nguyễn Trãi cùng những cuốn sách cổ được đặt ngay tại vị trí trung tâm của không gian trưng bày tầng 2, tái hiện lịch sử Việt Nam từ thời nhà Hồ đến nhà Nguyễn (từ thế kỷ XIV đến năm 1945). Đi từ bên phải vào, các hiện vật được bố trí dọc 2 bên không gian trưng bày đưa người xem ngược dòng thời gian về lại lịch sử Việt Nam dưới thời nhà Hồ, triều Lê sơ - Mạc - Lê Trung Hưng, triều đại Tây Sơn, đến triều Nguyễn. Cũng tại tầng 2 của khu A bảo tàng còn có 2 phòng trưng bày chuyên đề cố định: điêu khắc nghệ thuật đá Chămpa và văn hóa Óc eo- Phù Nam. Bộ sưu tập đá Chămpa được trình bày trong không gian mở ở hàng lang tầng 2 phòng bát giác nhìn xuống dưới tiền sảnh bảo tàng. Các bộ sưu tập được trình bày theo niên đại, trải dài từ thế kỷ thứ 7 đến 13, với hơn 50 tiêu bản được sưu tầm từ các tỉnh như Quảng Bình, Quảng Nam, Bình Định... Không giống với khu A của Bảo tàng Lịch sử Việt Nam, khi tham quan khu B Bảo tàng ở phố Tông Đản, du khách sẽ đi thăm từ tầng 2, xuống đến tầng 1. Tại đây có 29 gian phòng nhỏ, là nơi lưu giữ những tư liệu, hiện vật, tranh ảnh của cuộc đấu tranh giành độc lập dân tộc từ năm 1858 - 1945 và giai đoạn 30 năm kháng chiến, bảo vệ độc lập và thống nhất đất nước (1945 - 1975). Bảo tàng Lịch sử Việt Nam chính là nơi lưu giữ và trưng bày những di sản văn hóa vật thể quý báu của quốc gia. Đây cũng là nơi giới thiệu lịch sử thông qua những hiện vật quý hiếm, giúp người xem hiểu được lịch sử văn hóa lâu đời cũng như quá trình dựng nước và giữ nước của dân tộc Việt Nam. Trong thời gian tới, Bảo tàng sẽ tiếp tục giới thiệu đến du khách trong nước và nước ngoài những bộ sưu tập, những phòng triển lãm chuyên đề mới để phục vụ nhu cầu tham quan và tìm hiều lịch sử Việt Nam của người xem./

Last week, I visited the National Museum of Vietnam History. It is near the bus stop on the way home from work, and I knew it is nice museum.when I visited the next door. First, I upload pictures taken externally. Vietnamese history is also filled with diverse cultures, and some have shown that it has a long tradition of Oriental culture. TWO museums for £1.34 That's a bargain regardless of how good the museums are - but in this case, they're very good. The Vietnam National Museum of History is in a fine colonial French building just behind the Opera House and is of medium size for a museum. You should allow at least a couple of hours here. It has over 200,000 exhibits dating from prehistory up to the 1947 revolution and founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Exhibits are arranged in five major sections and there's plenty of information in English. The museum is quite modern in layout and interior design. When we visited, there were a couple of enthusiastic school groups visiting. Strongly recommended if you want to know about Vietnam history. The ticket price also includes entry to the revolutionary museum across the road making it exceptionally good value, but this museum is old fashioned in comparison. It contains a wealth of information concerning the revolutionary period in Vietnam's history, but there is little helpful signage in English.

The first building was amazing. It shows the history (and prehistoric) of Vietnam. The first floor seems to be organized by timeline. The second floor was housing Cham Sculpture and a more recent like 18th-19th century collection. The Cham culture display is kind of scatterred without proper timeline and explanation as compared to "Cham museum" in Da Nang. The second building was about the time before the abdication of the kingdom until the vietnam war over. It has almost 25 rooms if i'm not mistaken but it would be better if there's a "Theme and timeline" placard instead of "number" placard. So people are more intrigued by the stuff because they know the outline. Cause most people just scanned the room and some deterred to explore more because we need to read all the stuff to know.

Took us a few hours to wander around this museum. There are two separate buildings and one is for the ancient Vietnam exhibits (which is pretty impressive) and the other is for post-1945 Vietnam (French revolution, etc). They have a vast collection of pre-historic artifacts dating back to the Stone Age; it’s obvious that Vietnam has excellent archeological efforts. These are really old buildings built during the French rule so it’s a bit creepy walking around dark corridors and spaces, and some areas aren’t well-ventilated, although I think it adds to the experience while looking at ancient mystic objects, i felt like it added to the thrill..:) Overall, a must-visit if you like history and art. And who doesn’t? 🙃

The Vietnam National Museum of History is in the Hoan Kiem district of Hanoi, Vietnam. The museum building was an archaeological research institution of the French School of the Far East under French colonial rule of 1910, was extensively refurbished in 1920.
