This is a highly-commercialized food court.
The park is clean, the scenery is well-maintained, and the entrance evokes the feeling of visiting larger, more established parks. The positives end there.
This "park" has a total of two rides, one beach, and one water park.
Of the two rides, one is an observation deck, and the other is a very short (about 1 minute long) roller coaster. I don't know if you can call yourself an amusement park with 1 observation tower and 1 ride, but Sunworld thinks it qualifies.
The beach was closed when we went, and there was no advance notice. Thus one-third of the park was completely inaccessible, even though it was advertised as part of the experience. Think about buying a ticket to a movie then finding out that a third of it was missing entirely. That's the kind of thing Sunworld does.
The water park was in operation, but very small.
What was in full operation were restaurants. There are far more restaurants and food venues than actual rides. From the moment you walk in, everything is designed to upsell you into spending more money. The shows within cost money. The buffet was 300k/person and it was crowded and full of low quality food. When you walk out, you're herded through no fewer than three full shops before they let you leave.
That is if you're lucky enough to leave. The main way in and out is through cable car, and it's only operational at certain times during the day with a long break in the middle of the day. You can easily get stranded or ruin your day's schedule if you don't figure out its operating schedule. What's great is the real schedule isn't always listed correctly (some places say it runs morning till night, which is wrong).
I visited another Sunworld in another city and the experience was similar here. If you've never been to an amusement park in your life and don't mind being exploited at every turn, then this could be a fun experience for you. But I strongly suggest going to a real amusement park or just any other park in general - places like Da Lat have wonderful scenic gardens and rides without explicitly trying to funnel people through a barebones experience with false advertising. Say what you want about places like Disneyland, but they have standards. Sunworld seems to have very...
Read moreSuch a fun day out and great value. We had such a great time and felt like kids again. Water parks in Asia have been average so far, so we didn't expect much from this park especially since it was so cheap. But It was so worth it. The rides were so fun and the price included cable car tickets which was great. My recommendations: I recommend going in the morning as not all rides are open all day. A few will only be open until midday and the rest will open after lunch. Not sure if this is because the place was very empty. It also meant we didn't have to wait more then 10 minutes for any rides and we went on some multiple times. We went during the national holiday week in April. We checked the park map signage when we arrived which showed which rides are open, and did all the morning rides first. We had pizza for lunch which was surprisingly decent. Don't waste your money on buffet. Food and drinks were reasonably priced for a water park which was a nice change for once. You can only buy with the armband which was annoying but easy to buy. We enjoyed the rest of the rides after lunch and were done by 3pm.
If you're wearing jewellery or your swimwear has any form of metal buckles, clips or similar, you won't be able to go on a few rides - including surfing. Ladies -bring a spare shirt or different swimwear for those rides if you plan on wearing a bikini or anything that has an adjustable strap. Men - if your shorts have a back pocket, make sure they are velcro, not a button.
Bring sunscreen! There are flip flops to hire if you don't have or don't feel comfortable leaving your shoes lying around while you are on the rides.
Go to the quiet areas for the bathrooms - they are empty, clean and have aircon.
Don't forget to visit the Roaring timbers Roller coaster! its outside the water park and a bit of a walk. It is included in the ticket. It is hidden away so we almost missed it. We ended up having the ride to ourselves.
Depending where you are staying, there is a free shuttle bus service available that takes you to the cable cars. If you plan on taking the shuttle bus back, make sure you plan ahead and catch an early enough cable car to get you back in time.
We purchased our tickets on Klook and had no...
Read moreAs a foreign visitors, at first I was a bit confused on what is it and what is included in the tickets.
This Sunworld is a themepark with only 3 rides (Dec 2023) and a big water park called Aquatopia located in an island called Hon Thom at at south of Phu Quoc. You have to take the world's longest cable car ride almost 8km (Dec 2023) to access to this themepark.
When you purchase the standard ticket, it will includes the Waterpark itself and return cable car ride departs from the south of phuquoc called hon thom departure terminal in Google map. They also called this area where the terminal is The sunset city of Phuquoc because the Sunset view here is SUPERB !
Once you are in the Hon Thom Island, the themepark is called Sunworld Hun Thom (I guess it is developed by Sunworld). The water park here has many rides and also bigger than the one in the VinWonders. The only thing is they need a better maintenance on their stairs walking up the the rides. A lot of the steps are broken and sharp ! They only use some simple plastic mat to cover the broken stairs.
The food is reasonably priced, it guess you don't have to purchase their buffet lunch tickets if you are not a big eater. Their locker for the changing is a better system than the VinWonders because they will give you a band to wear, hence u can access to your locker as many times as you need. Unlike the vinwonders only can access once.
There are all sorts Waterpark rides from kids slides to the super vertical drops for the adventurous ones. They also have a surfing experience station.
The only complains that I have is they need to scan your ticket QR quote for the every dry park rides and even the cable rides back to phuquoc. Your phone may not have data connectivity at the island and their free wifi needed to signed on and it will get cut off and on. I suggest you to print screen the QR. Not sure why they need to scan the QR everything, maybe they only allow you to take the ride one time only.
Overall we enjoyed the Sunworld Hon Thom. It should be one of your attraction in your itinerary...
