We had the most amazing time on the Royal Livingstone Express. We went in with high hopes given my teenage daughter has always wanted to experience an “old school” steam engine train and “classic dining car”. The Livingstone Express did not disappoint! The train is very well maintained, so doesn’t feel old or stuffy. The staff was super professional, the host was an incredible speaker and storyteller, educating and entertaining us with the history of the train and railroad connecting much of southern and eastern Africa. The train also stops on the famous bridge overlooking the waterfall so you can disembark and take pictures of the sunset over the falls. And lastly, the quality of the food was exceptional. Often times these more “touristy” experiences don’t have the best food. We were super impressed by how polished and delicious the food was, starting with the appetizers to the 3-course sit down dinner. Not at all gimmicky or mass-produced, but instead elevated and authentic. Note, we have high standards for fine dining as we’re from San Francisco and NYC. Would highly recommend the Royal Livingstone Express to anyone visiting...
Read moreWhat a beautiful old time flair. Interior of the train is very tastefully done. The excursion to the bridge was special. The best place to take photo's is at the smoking area. On the bridge you will have a oppurtunity to take photos. Do not make conversation with the entrepeneurs they will not leave you alone to experience this wonder of the world, the waterfalls. You will be able to see a wonderful sunset. The food as such was dissapointing. Chicken sosaties as a starter with Salmon Canapes and plain Chicken (supposed to be stuffed) as a main course. A Chocolate mouse with Berry sauce as dessert. It was a three course meal. Not value for money would have expected a traditional African meat. The staff however made up for the food. Professional, well informed....
Read moreVery expensive for what you get if you do the dinner train. The train itself is worth a look, but you can do that without paying to travel on it. The dinner train basically trundles to Victoria Falls for a 30 minute stop. After that you park up in a siding for the actual dinner, which takes a very long time to process. Difficult to tell is this is still post Covid issues going on with staff training, but it's not an experience to recommend as things...
