Anyone who expects this Sheraton to have some degree of meeting normal Marriott standards will be deeply disappointed. The only Marriott standard they have adopted is serving Pepsi instead of Coke.
We are platinum members of Marriott so we got upgraded to the "club" level.
When you walk in the hotel you will immediately think, early 70's. This will be confirmed when you go to your room and find the carpets are probably 40+ Years old. At one time they were a gold or tan color, they are now smudged with black stains everywhere and the smell of mold is overwhelming. The bathrooms have been tiled and are fine, showers very good.
The staff is either not knowledgeable or fairly incompetent. We asked for a taxi to the cruise ship. They ordered a taxi who insisted we were going to the international airport, that is what we paid for. 20 minutes later after needing to be aggressive with the staff we got into the cab to take the short trip to the cruise ship. The hotel clerk said he had the cab company take our credit card and we just needed to show it to the driver. The driver insisted on cash. When we return we will have to sort out if we ended up paying twice.
We asked about dinner on Christmas eve. The clerk said they would be serving it "until 8". What is the cost? "I don't know, you will have to ask the restaurant." We went up to the restaurant at 7 pm. It was empty and closed. We went down to the front desk and asked when Dinner would be served. They said "not until 9:30". By then our options outside the hotel were eliminated. We went to dinner at 9:30, it wasn't ready yet. When asked to take a table we asked them what the cost will be. They said, " you will have to ask the front desk." No other options were available so we ate and then received a bill for over $200 for two people. We didn't have any alcohol, just water and a Pepsi.
We also asked where we could do laundry being at the middle of a three week trip. The front desk directed us to two locations several blocks away. There was one a block away.
The ventilation system is very bad, the system smells moldy and we are hoping we don't get Legionares disease. It was nearly impossible to sleep with the moldy smell in our room.
The morning breakfast buffet has no sneeze guards. The eggs are runny and cold, the granola is stale, and it is generally unsafe to eat there because of people coughing and sneezing right over the food.
There is a lack of attention to detail, for example, the windows in the pool area have spider webs along the edges and corners.
I can only assume the favorable ratings are from people who are friends of the employees and they are trying to get...
Read moreThe Sheraton Libetador is comfortable hotel located in the "Centro" area of Beunos Aires. The lively "Florida" street pedestrian walkway is just around the corner lined with cafes, clothing stotes and gift shops. The theatres are about a 10 to 15 minute walk away, depending on what you want to see.
When to visit: I suggest planning a stay including a full Sunday as the San Telmo Market and the area along Defenser Street is a must visit if you like outdoor markets with crafts, leather goods, clothing, jewelry and souvenirs. This cobblestoned market goes on for many blocks so be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
Sheraton Liberator Hotel: The staff here know about great customer service. Most of the tram are staff are fluent in Spanish and English (possibly other languages too).
Amazing staff: Senor Rafael at the front desk warmly welcomed us upon our arrival and provided us with local sites to see and tasty restaurant recommendations. He tailored his suggestions based on what we told him we were most interested in. He was very professional, knowledgeable and informative. We saw him throughout our stay and shared new information with us.
We also had great experiences with staff members like Sara on the housekeeping team who had a friendly smile for us every morning and Rueben on the food services team during breakfast who knew exactly what we liked for breakfast (fresh poached eggs with spinach were delicious) and helped us improve our Spanish vocabulary.
Food: we tried the Maximilian Restaurant Lounge in the lobby for dinner one night but did not enjoy the food. The breakfast buffet in the La Pergola restaurant was much better. There are plenty of food options in Buenos Aires.
Rooms: The rooms are clean and well appointed with a comfortable bed, soft bed sheets and nice pillows, fluffy towels, toiletries (fruit scent), robes and slippers. There are room safes as well.
Overall, it is like staying with family at the Sheraton Liberator. A well located hotel with a fun crew of helpful and friendly...
Read moreOn arrival for the first time to splendid BA , the comforting site of this superbly located modern hotel was most welcome! In the heart of the city right next to Florida ( excellent for the essential Blue rate money exchange available… Cambio! Cambio!)literally 30 seconds away , and the smart Galeria Pacifico on the corner of Florida… very handy too for the nearby yellow Bus city tour bus stop and ticket office which is a must do excursion. The hotel is modern big but never less warm and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and contain everything you would need for a stay of any length, free wi fi works quickly and efficiently too. The breakfast is varied and of decent quality ditto any food ordered in the reception area of a lunch or evening, a good alternative if arriving to the hotel at unsociable hours, the service and choices were very good and the food very pleasing indeed. The reception bar is well stocked, smart and relaxed with TV showing football quite often! The gentleman on the front door are always ready to greet with a smile and welcome guests back from long days exploring! Most appreciated! |The Libertador is beautifully adorned on its walls by both original directly painted art and hanging pieces, there are at one superb in texture and colour and are extremely eye catching! The artist and his charming wife were actually in residence during the stay which was a nice addition to the experience. |The hotels shining light ( and colleague Martin on reception who was so kind) was Carlos! The great Carlos who made this hotel so brilliant! His instant warm greeting, smile and very excellent English made settling in so easy. He really made the stay in BA so much more enjoyable. Kindly listing restaurants, how to get around the city, which trains to take and places to go. Carlos was so helpful and kind to us the hotel we will never forget his contribution to the holiday without him it wouldn’t been the same ! Thank you Carlos and all the...
