Lovely hotel outside of the cute town of El Calafate. Did take the free shuttle into town twice for dinner. Just wish it came back a bit sooner. Stayed here before and after a trip to El Chalten. First room's jacuzzi didn't work, but second one's did and I sure needed it after the 15 mile hike to the base of Fitz Roy! Last night there, we were too exhausted to go back into town and ate at the hotel. Dinner was pretty good, better than breakfast. I will say, scrambled eggs were available every day, you just had to ask for them. Staff was friendly and helpful. I said "Sometimes peaceful" because the free-roaming dogs of this town started barking at 5:00 a.m. and did wake me up a couple mornings, and walls are thin and I did have to ask staff to ask neighbors to quiet down who were gathered in the room next door and talking quite loud. Would have been more convenient closer to town, but then again, it was nice to enjoy the serene lake view and watch the birds on...
Read moreWe were a little disappointed by this hotel.||||We booked this on a package - if you got a good deal, it is a fine place to stay one or two nights while seeing Perrito Moreno, but be aware that it is basic.||||The service is non existent to almost resentful of being asked. At dinner, we waited an hour and twenty minutes after ordering to receive our food, despite being the only patrons in the restaurant. Breakfast is minimal, with toast, sugary cereals and rotten bananas the mornings that we ate there.||||The hotel is located a 40 minute walk into town (at a good pace), or a five to ten minute taxi ride. They have a shuttle at 7pm and 10pm...

The bathrooms are of a good standard.|Los Hielos hotel is a couple of kilometres outside Calafate but if the restaurant is closed they lay on a taxi into town which you can agree pick up times. |The breakfast is ok with a choice of fresh fruit, juice, good coffee and cold buffet. The dinner menu is limited but well cooked (we had a lamb stew) and inexpensive. The hotel has a small but comfortable lounge where its nice to have a beer and spot the flamingos on the lake....
