When our bus from the airport dropped us off in front of the Secret Garden, we found the gates locked and no one answered the bell, despite the fact that we had emailed them our flight information and anticipated arrival time. Needless to say, we were a bit worried. We were definitely in a local neighborhood, so we walked back toward the main road with our luggage in search of assistance. We found a local restaurant (with excellent food and internet), emailed Booking.com with our concern, and soon got an email from Eduardo, who apologized for the mix-up and quickly came to retrieve us and our luggage. From that point on, everything was wonderful. Once inside the gates, we found the jungle paradise that we were expecting—in back of the main house. The lovely polished wooden back porch had a lovely seating area, with tables for meals. A narrow wooden walkway passed through lush jungle foliage (be sure you have mosquito repellent!) to connect the porch to the rooms behind. Our room was very basic, but had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. It was decorated in blue and pink with bright Toucan pillows on the bed, and had lovely dark wooden floors. The air-conditioning was wonderful after the hot, muggy garden! Eduardo brought us cold drinks and helped us plan our entire trip, setting up taxis (for a very reasonable price) to take us to the Argentine side of the falls the next day and to take us to both the Brazilian side and back to the airport the day after. He also gave us suggestions for sightseeing and restaurants in town. Breakfast, served on the beautiful porch, was delicious—fruit, toast and muffins, fresh juice, eggs to order, and wonderful coffee. On the second morning we had to leave before breakfast so Eduardo arranged for us to have sandwiches and fruit packed to take with us. It was the perfect place to stay and Eduardo made our experience of Iguazu...
Read moreThis is a very friendly charming little B&B with only 3 rooms and a host who is always ready to help make your stay enjoyable. This place is very unassuming when you first arrive. It is in a residential area with friendly neighbors who greet you as you walk by. If you are looking for a luxury resort with pool, this is not it. There is a very pretty dining area with a wooden walkway to the rooms though a beautiful garden. It really feels like a hidden garden in the jungle. When we rang the bell we were met by Loreda, who showed us to our room and returned a short time later with possibly the best caipirinhas ever and some a nice tray of little sandwiches. The rooms are simple, but nicely decorated, clean, and air conditioned. ||You can easily walk to town from here. The breakfast is toast, eggs, orange juice, coffee, and fruit salad. Very nice! Loreda will also cook you a nice dinner if you ask. The addition to our bill was very reasonable. One evening we did not feel like going out and we asked Loreda if we could dine in. She offered a few options and we chose pasta. We had told her we were vegetarians and within a short time we were presented with a very good plate of pasta with a no- meat sauce, with wine. It was perfect. ||The only note of caution is that when I booked through booking.com, the app did not alert me to the fact that the Hidden Garden is cash only (pesos or dollars). Luckily we had enough on hand to settle up. ||Most earlier reviews mention a different host (Eduardo). We were helped by Loreda and another woman who might be her daughter. Both delightful people!||It was a great stay and we...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I stayed at the Secret Garden two weeks ago and we had a fantastic time. We were smitten with the clean and comfortable room, the delicious breakfast, appetizers and fantastic happy hour caipirinhas, and, maybe most importantly, how engaging, pleasant, and accommodating John, the proprietor was (and don't forget Roxy, John's cute dog).
He showed us around town, recommended a number of tourist sites (and we should have listened to him about the moonlight visit to the falls, which may have been the sole part of our time in Iguazu that did not live up to expectations). We also met some cool Canadians staying at Secret Garden Iguazu B&B and went to a lovely restaurant that John had recommended.
John also made arrangements to pick us up and drop us off from the airport and the very friendly driver, Juan, took us around Iguazu and the environs during our stay. (While off the beaten path, would well recommend the tour of the Itaipu Dam).
Without a doubt, we would stay at the Secret Garden the next time we're in Iguazu. In planning our trip, we weren't quite certain how best to plan a two-night stay in Iguazu with enough time to see the sites on both the Brazilian and Argentinian side. All we had to do was book with John at the Secret Garden and he took care of the rest....
