We stayed here four nights on our east coast travels. The kitchen and sitting area were decorated very nice with a pool table, hammock etc. The room was pretty basic but did the job. Our main problem with this hostel was the staff. After the first day we noticed the staff having arguments with each other and the manager Greg shouting at other staff members in the main guest areas like the kitchen and sitting area. This made us feel very uncomfortable and unsettled. Over the next few days the manager started to shout at guests including ourselves for various things such as running the water for too long when we were cleaning dishes. We were playing the pool table one night at 9pm and we heard him screaming at us from reception and ran through to the room to tell us to stop. The room was unlocked and had a sign saying it closed at 10pm so unsure what we were doing wrong. This place has the potential to be a very relaxed and social hostel, however, the staff...

Such a nice stay there, good vibes at YHA Beachside 1770 mates! 😎🤙 This hostel is ideally situated close to the beach and the shops. You can have a surf lesson for the cheapest price on all the East Coast. It's a lot of fun, so don't miss that man!! 🏄 Also you can go from there to a kangaroo sanctuary, and see the Sunset at 1770.The backpack is clean, especially the common areas which are really nice and comfortable places to chill (kitchen, tables, pool table and living room with its big flat screen TV with Netflix!). Free breakfast and plenty of bread all day and night long for you as well! But above all the staff is absolutely amazing! They are very friendly and will welcome you warmly. Thank you Antoine, the best Belgian cleaner and football supporter ahah!! 😜⚽🇧🇪 Thank you Jay for your warm welcome! 👊🇳🇱 Miss all of you bro! Would have staid longer but "C'est la vie"! 😸❤️
So run to YHA...

After informing the staff I would be a few minutes late to check-in, they kept the door open and checked me in with no dramas. Super-nice and offered to help in any way they could. Free breakfast is a nice touch however with my food allergy I couldn't utilise it to the max. Hostel is only a few minutes down an access track to the beach (and patrolled area is another ~10 mins south).
Room was massive, despite 10 people being in there, there was plenty of room for storage and laying around, never felt cramped even when full.
Love the 'open-air' facilities although perhaps a bit more kitchenware was needed. Ended up needing to use my camping cups and utensils as there weren't enough to go around. Bit of cleaning and maintenance needed, but purely cosmetic, everything seemed to work ok.
Would stay again next time I'm up in the area and...
