We had our Christmas dinner last Saturday night, a relatively large table booking. The menu was emailed and everyone had an opportunity to read it before hand. The entree was a choice of two options however on the night the entree just came out without having had a choice of the two. The entree was placed in alternate places and we had to swap if someone didnât want one or the other.
This wasnât explained to us, as the menu suggested we had a choice of two entrees. When the entrees did hit the table they were very small and underwhelming. The total cost for entree and main was $47 pp, we knew the cost before hand but after having both the entree and main we wouldnât pay $20 for the smallest of entrees and $27 for the main as the main was small too, itâs not hard to load a plate up with roasted vegetables.... We had always intended to go back to someoneâs house for dessert so we only wanted the entree and main which saved us $8:00 off the original 3 course menu price of $55 pp.
Talking with others I think we were all underwhelmed at the over priced menu for what we actually got and we would have been happy to pay $30-$35 dollars tops, for what we got. I understand that it was a Christmas event but it wasnât worth $47pp. I wouldnât book it again for a Christmas dinner next year. If you wanna serve small meals at over priced prices Iâm afraid youâll lose our group for future business if you arenât careful.
We consist of locals and weekenders and we donât expect the world, however we do expect value for money and this certainly wasnât the case. My advice would be review the pricing for special occasions such as Christmas. Just because it has âChristmasâ attached to a menu shouldnât allow the prices to be hijacked.
We love what you are doing to the pub and the renovations but we wonât be taken as fools when it comes to cost and value for money. We consist of Sydney, and local people from various backgrounds/ careers and know what to expect... Hopefully things will improve !!!!
After the nights festivities one of the group stated âwe shouldnât be over charged to pay off their renovation costsâ, which I thought was funny but unfortunately thatâs kinda how it feels.
We will be back for normal off the menu dinners but please monitor prices and meal sizes. 15 bad reviews and word of mouth isnât what a small business needs and I must say $17 for two small Apple ciders is a...
Read moreLet me get this out straight away - I am not a pub guy, however many country pubs get past my pub road block.
I have not had a meal here for sometime. I was aware of the very pleasant garden area where on weekends they often put on live music.
So on New Yearâs Day my wife and I decided to have a relaxed meal in the early evening.
I had not realised the menu has been substantially upgraded. The pub favourites are there and much more. I would even say the menu is interesting. Chef Ben has made a difference. He has been there for awhile - I did not realise how much things have changed since the well executed renovation.
The outside area was perfect on a balmy evening. The inside dining area is pleasant enough - for my liking the dining room is noisy (like most pubs).
I have photographed a selection of our order. I am impressed at the attention to plating even by a busy kitchen. Check out my pics and you will see my point. The pics tell my story. All the dishes were delicious with a special mention for the barramundi which was perfectly cooked.
The service was good however the bistro has an odd policy of delivering entrees and mains at the same time. When I questioned this the reply was that is what they do for the garden area. Hmmm.
A lovely post script to our evening was chilling out on the chesterfields. Great spot in winter in front of a roaring fire.
Unfortunately the Google review app treats the Bundanoon Hotel entry as a hotel so some of the information I could enter is absent. I cannot comment on staying at the hotel.
Country pubs are often the centre of social activity for their community. This pub works hard on that score.
The Bundanoon Hotel has succeeded in driving over my...
