Just completed our 16th stay at this remarkable B&B... easily the best in the Southern Highlands... this time with the whole extended Family... yes we booked the whole place!
It starts with the scrumptious breakfast ... full continental with fresh orange juice, stewed berries, fresh fruit, cereals PLUS bacon, coffee, teas, and your choice of eggs...accompanied by the wonderful aroma of freshly-baked bread.
It just gets better from there... accomodation in huge 30-50sqm rooms with every comfort, huge bathrooms (some with spas), flat screens and free WiFi throughout, fridge, microwave, central heating/cooling, HVACS Air filtering, PLUS aircon and more... all rooms open to a balcony with your own chairs and table... and views of a 2-acre private garden populated with Australian birdlife many of which you can hand-feed.
The main house offers the ultimate in eclectic accommodation for relaxing, reading or entertaining with your friends and guests... a huge and exotic library, dining room, spacious entertainment room with big flatscreen (with free Netflix) and fireplace, plus the breakfast room and huge undercover balconies and verandahs all round and large private BBQ and undercover outdoor dining area.
An outstanding feature is the solitude...this peaceful place is far removed from roads, traffic and trains so every minute of your stay is peaceful, day or night.
The outstanding decor of the main facilities and the guest rooms has been meticulously curated by the owner and host of this magnificent establishment, Ms Ruth Moncrieff, who is herself an institution in the Southern Highlands... famous for her agreeable hospitality and generosity.
Bundanoon Lodge is the ultimate jumping off point to explore the best the Southern Highlsnds has to offer.. from the walks, canyons and waterfalls of the Morton National Park to the charming village and rail-head of Bundanoon, and the nearby restaurants, gardens, forests, wineries, art galleries and antique/collectible shops.
For value-for-money, Bundanoon Lodge has no equal ... the privacy, peacefulness, spaciousness, facilities and accomodation are without peer in the district.
Do yourself a favour for your next shortbreak or holiday ..you won't be...

Access can be tricky if you have limited mobility. There are 8 or 9 steep-ish steps (with rails each side) to get up to the entry. Once you are on the entry level, everything is on the same level.
We stayed in the Australiana room with a king sized bed and a spa. Heavenly. The room has under floor central heating as well as reverse cycle air conditioning so you can be as warm or cool as you like.
The common areas are so inviting. They are bright, open, spacious, welcoming, homely and cosy all at once. 2 common areas also have fire places keeping the lodge warm in winter.
Breakfast is one of the best we've had at any B&B. Ruth not only puts on a spread of cereals, yoghurt, fresh & stewed fruits, she makes her own delicious bread for your toast and cooks bacon & eggs for you how you like!
Bundanoon Lodge is so quiet, peaceful & relaxing it also became revitalising and was the prefect place for us to spend our 10th wedding anniversary.
The limited mobile phone service (don't panic - there is wifi) meant we could spend our time together, not on the phone.
Ruth is also an awesome ambassador for the local area. She was able to recommend places to eat and sights to see - including areas of the National Park with wheelchair access.
If you are visiting Bundanoon or need to stop overnight on the way somewhere else, I highly recommend staying at...
Read moreI booked 2 rooms - one for 4 adults, the other for 3 adults. Before we arrived I spoke to Ruth both over the phone and via email who said that many adults would be uncomfortable in the room. Genuine question - why advertise a room has capacity for 5 adults but then don't want to cater for that many adults in the room? I went ahead with the booking anyway. That could be why Ruth was unpleasant to deal with when I arrived.
One of our party was also coeliac (which I had explained to Ruth over the phone). When we asked for gluten free bread she advised she needed more notice. Given I had spoken to Ruth over a week before our arrival, I'm not sure what more notice she needed. She even turned her back to me and ignored me when I told her I had spoken to her about it.
Overall, the rooms are a decent size, though one (Japanese Room) smelt of dampness. Location is pretty good. Downside is the manager/owner treating you as though she's doing you a favour in 1. Preparing breakfast and 2. Letting you lease the room. Wouldn't recommend because nobody wants to deal with that kind of...
