DO NOT PICK THIS PLACE! There are a lot more choices in Cairns!!
Positive: Good location - Cairns CBD is small so you anyway are close to everything wifi is okay Staff are generally friendly and very helpful. e.g. during check in we asked receptions for suggestions where to visit. The lady gave us plenty of great advice.
Negative: Cleanliness: We booked an apartment with terrace. I am really unhappy with the fact that the terrace - without any nice views nor table / chairs for us to stay - occupies at least 1/3 of the room space. We booked our room (30+ sq meters) and ended up having a much smaller space than expected. And it is utterly DISGUSTING to see cigarette butts and cockroaches in our terrace! And I am scared of the latter and ended up having bad sleep because of the worry that they will sneak into our room. Facilities: First of all, our room doesn't have a proper door - it is just a plank with handwritten label of our room number of it - how unprofessional is this?? Seriously, if the room is not fully furnished or not ready yet, JUST DON"T SELL IT TO YOUR CUSTOMERS! Bathroom is not well maintained. Once I thought the tap was going to be broken when i pressed it. We are two of us and they literally provided everything in pairs - I guess it doesn't harm to have spares spoons / forks, etc right? Our TV was not working - it took them two days to fix it. Housekeeping: I stayed in some other serviced apartment in Aussie and they manage to provide daily housekeeping. Here in best western, they do it weekly. Huh?? That means if you are staying here just for a couple of days, you aren't going to get your bed sheet nor your towels changed. You ought to wash all your dishes and sweep your own floor. I would have picked another place if i know this in advance. Our bed sheets have spots of black / grey on it. I wonder how clean they were... Noise: This apartment is right next to a road so you have to be prepared to bear some noises. One of the housekeeping rule mentions that no parties are allowed after 9pm. Guess what? Our neighbor was shouting / yelling / playing loud music on a Friday night / Saturday midnight! And i can hear it even after wearing my earplugs! It is clear that I shouldn't complain to them as they seemed to be drunk. Reception is not 24 hours which means we left with no assistance if such bad things happens.
I really regretted my choice. It ruined my holidays here. I should have spent slightly more to stay in much...
Read moreI stayed with Cairns Central Plaza this week and holy cr*p do not stay here. ( Please check out some of my other reviews to check credibility) The hotel itself was alright nothing far from the ordinary but the management and policies were one to behold. On our first night we brought a few guests to relax in the hot tub from 6:30 - 7:30 (well within policy visiting hours) We were met by the manager on the top floor saying we weren't allowed to have a party, (we weren't). We assured him anyway that whatever it was making it look like we were having a party we would go back downstairs and leave in my room. He replied with "I'm calling the cops" and then wouldn't let us in the elevator to go back downstairs. Later the police ended up coming and told the manager off saying not to call them for things like this again. Later that night after our guests had left he followed us to our room. The next day my partner took a candy out of the candy bowl on the reception desk with a sign on it that said free. We got into the elevator and the manager was there. He then waited until a nurse got off on the 4th floor to yell at us about taking 1 piece of candy and again proceeded to follow us to our room. I called around that night frightened by this man and found out he purposely does this to many guests staying for short amounts of time because he doesn't like the policy the owner implemented. These were not the only incidences we had, this was only the first two nights. It was grossly unprofessional, uncomfortable and made me uneasy the entire week I was there. I was even told to record conversations I had with him so he couldn't hold me liable to anything. The rooms are not listed for anything special price wise. I would advise you book into any of the many other comfortable accommodation Cairns...
Read moreGreat location. Short walking distance to anywhere in Cairns CBD. Stayed 7 nights. We had two rooms, one on level 6 and one on level 10. The rooms were very different. The room on level 6 had two king singles locked together, so very comfortable. It also had an outdoor balcony with an excellent view of Cairns Harbour. The room on level 10 had a queen bed. Only one person stayed in that room, so the bed was okay. Would not recommend for a couple. Level 10 room had an indoor balcony with the air conditioner vent pointing straight at the table and chairs, which was way too hot in December and January, so it could not be used at all.
Management was friendly and helpful. Rooms were large with plenty of space. Good kitchen. Good hanging spaces and draws for clothing. Both rooms included dishwashers, although the one in the room on level 10 was so old it had a weird clock type knob to turn on the dishwasher, with no instructions, so we could not use it. Both rooms had a top load washing machine and clothes dryer.
Both rooms smelt like wet dog. I went to the shops to get carpet and air freshers (no vac spray). The showers were inside a bath tub, and the spray nozzles sprayed water all over the bathroom floor - so not so good. The pool on the roof top was great, with amazing views of Cairns. Overall good accommodation for the price. Would we stay again? Perhaps, if only because of the...
