The check in process, the onsite gym, staff, location and room is 5 stars, where the ratings dropped is our following experience;

Our first day there was met with a constant loud drilling from either maintenance or a neighbouring house (not very relaxing after a 7 hour drive).

Although told there is plenty of parking onsite, there infact isn't. The 15 or so parks out front designated to the hotel is also shared with the guests of the Hale gym, spa and pilates. Additional parking behind the hotel is available and timed (so park at own risk).

Unknown when booking is that the Brassey is part of a local chain where restaurants and basement pool are located at alternate venues across the road (and pricey).

Our last night there we discovered how thin the walls are with noisy neighbours whose conversation ran from 10.30pm well into the early morning (2am). When either neighbour used their bathroom, the pipes sounded like a loud dentist drill similar to the first day, making it impossible to sleep, again not ideal when you have a 4am start and 7+ hours...

Really lovely Staff, but definitely not with its reputation. Room was TINY, TV Remote wouldn't work, very FEW basics (you get more in an $80 a night Motel!) Bathroom door and skirting paintwork disgraceful for a Hotel of this ‘supposed’ calibre. It rained every day I was there so never got to see the gardens. For a “Supposed Quality Hotel” there is not even a BASIC Dining Room, or food service. I had to drive to another suburb in the rain to get something to eat. The Hotel has a very small area which SELLS chips and Kit Kats as well a very small selection of snacks, but no ‘meal’ things. A Hotel with The Brassey’s Reputation and Heritage should be doing what The Hyatt (a much better choice if you want something a bit special) and offer Afternoon Tea etc. very inadequate, (and this was embarrassing: NO Toilet Brush!!) Definitely WOULDN'T recommend. (Only real plus: the bed was clean & Comfortable.) You would get as good a stay if you would have been in an $80 a night Motel, 5 minutes away in Queanbeyan!!! Sorry Brassey, but 3 1/2 Stars only. Very...

The hotel itself as you drive up looks fabulous and heritage and the room was great with authentic sash windows - the hotel advertises itself with a swimming pool but on arrival apparently that’s elsewhere at The Realm hotel and I was told you had to pay/ book. No worries we thought as they have an on-site spa and we popped in and saw the pool steam room etc and thought we would return the following day for some relaxation upon entering we were asked by the lady on reception if we needed help so I explained we are guests and would like to use the spa but she said it wasn’t possible unless we had a treatment booked, as a guest in the hotel surely you should be able to use the facilities in the hotel? it’s not really much to ask nor does it work separating it, what are the perks of staying here? She didn’t say we could pay however when I contacted the spa they said we could pay $25 to use the facilities and when I mentioned this she said NO and she was pretty rude. We manage properties in Thredbo Village and know what good hospitality is, we didn’t...

This hotel certainly has character... The exterior facade is beautiful as with the landscape around the establishment. The room I had felt really dated and in need of some renovation. The lighting was dim and made the whole place feel gloom. I am not a fan of carpeted floors in hotel rooms as they look dirty and this was the case at the Brassy, compared to some other hotels that had carpet and looked clean. In addition they did not provide slippers like they do in the other Doma group hotels (Little Nat, Realm, Burbury). The bed itself whilst comfortable was two single beds joined together so you had the gap in the middle that you roll into. The shower itself had a stainless steel basin which I felt looked out of place but appreciated for it's cleanliness. My other work colleagues had issues with the hot water where it didn't get to temp for a long time. The issue I had was that turning the cold water ever slightly made the water turn freezing cold, so it took finesse to get it right.

Positive: it was a decent stay and walking distance to Parliament House (about 10min walk) and other government buildings. There is a kid’s play area for family with a small kid. Also it is walking distance to Manuka area where it has a public bathhouse and places to eat and Coles. Negative: it was described as king size bed, it was simply two single beds stuck together and there was an obvious gap. And cleaning was not done properly and facility was built old and the tv in the room was very slow to respond and eventually turned itself off. It would be great to be more accommodating for room allocation where this hotel does not have a lift to go up and down. We had a pram, we had to carry up with all other luggage. Car park is available onsite but it has limited spaces.
