I always love finding reliable stopover stays on long road trips, and after a decent first stay at Bishops Lodge Motor Inn, Hay, I expected the return visit to be similar. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.||On the way to Adelaide, we had a large front-facing room—basic, but clean and perfectly fine for an overnight stop. When we had to delay our return by a day, I called to see if we could move our booking. At first, I was told they were fully booked, but after a few minutes, they said they had figured something out for us.||On arrival, we found ourselves in the back section of the motel, and things went downhill from there. The second we opened the door, we were hit with an overwhelming vanilla scent—so strong we had to leave the door open for a while to air it out. At first glance, this was clearly an older room, and then we started noticing details: dead small flies on the single bed and bedside, stains on the carpet and furniture, and a musty smell lingering beneath the artificial fragrance.||I was woken around 3am by the person next door talking in his sleep. Eventually, he got up, used the bathroom, and started boiling a kettle, which meant sleep was over for me. But the main issue wasn’t the noise—it was a strange tightness in my chest that had me struggling to take a deep breath. I went into the bathroom to try and clear my airways, and that’s when I found the source of the odour.||The vanilla scent had been masking a severe mould problem. Turning on the light revealed mould patches all over the ceiling, on the tiles, and the shower curtain. The toilet roll holder was rusted, and to top it off, there were spiders with baby spiders crawling out of the ceiling vent. The mould smell was intense, and it was clear the ceiling had been scrubbed (possibly with bleach), so this my breathing issues.||By sunrise, I couldn’t take a deep breath, so I got dressed, packed the car, and sat with the door open, just waiting for my family to wake so we could leave.||If you’re assigned a front-facing room, you’ll probably have a clean and basic stay. But if you end up in one of the older back rooms, be prepared for the possibility of strong artificial scents, possible mould issues, and a generally rundown space.||Would I stay again? Not unless I could be guaranteed...
Read moreThe best place in town to stay, excellent country hospitality and great service. I had come to the lodge as a 4 day business trip. see the following for my breakdown of review:
Staff: Owners were incredibly friendly and kind, nothing was too hard for them to assist me with. The cleaning staff are friendly and helpful also never showed any annoyance to requests made.
Cleanliness: The rooms were extremely clean, (in my job it required a clean room to prevent my client from getting an infection, i went to wipe down furniture with antibacterial wipes and there was nothing, sounds extreme i know!!), but everything was super and spotless, clean and fresh smelling.
comfort: We found the Queen room very comfortable and well provided for, we had a little kitchenette which served our purposes and a mini bar fridge. The rooms had blinds that were day and night blinds. The rooms were not dark, if you require it to sleep in the morning. The highway is beside the lodge but was not bad at all.
The Beds !!!!!... 5/5 for comfort, I can vouch that the beds were super comfortable, well the singles anyways, my clients said they had a great sleep and thought the beds were very comfortable.
Other: There is a swimming pool on the premises and play equipment for kids I loved that there was a laundry that was part of your stay, which was free to use. this was so convenient for me to help my clients. There was a fully licenced restaurant that was soon to re-open it looked amazing, would make an excellent place for a conference room. The lodge would be a great choice for a business venue which could cater for, accommodation, food, and conference needs. There was a pub the next street over if you wanted to walk to somewhere else for drinks and a meal.
i would highly recommend Bishops Lodge as your place to stay, we certainly will be back to visit again and enjoy the hospitality they have to offer.
Hint: Call the lodge instead of using accommodation booking sites, they offer lower prices and same offer of pay at...
Read moreReally poor hospitality .. Went there for a quick stop with our 3 months old baby on our way back from holidays. We were expecting a good night sleep as we were planning to leave at 4am to hit the road again. Problem was: the power went off for most of the night. No aircon, nothing working, hot and humid room and a really bright fire safety light on top of the bed to make sure we are awake. Obviously a pretty bad night with a baby. Absolutely no care from our host, haven’t seen anyone even before reception is supposed to close. While we do understand the power outage was out of their hand, a bit of consideration for the people Paying full price would be the bare minimum. Could not see anyone as leaving early with very little sleep and a long day ahead. When contacting management to let them know how bad our experience was and as we did not receive the service we paid for we’d like to be refunded even partially, we did not even receive any sort of understanding. No apology at all and been told to contact their local energy provider to complain. If there was no one at reception is because they could not hear us ring the door bell or phone. What a joke. We are not the customer of the energy company. We paid for a service we did not receive at all and were left in the « dark » with no assistance. Just really poor...
