Katherine Motel — Hotel in Katherine

After my car broke down just out of town, I was looking for a sanctuary for a few days while it was being fixed so checked into the Katherine Motel. I’ve travelled lots and stayed in some amazing hotels yet here has been one of the best stays I’ve had in a while, would totally recommend!

The staff here are so helpful and hardworking and on par, if not better than a 5* hotel. The room was lovely, seemed newly refurbished/decorated, was so clean and the bed made sure I had the best sleep! Most importantly, the motel room had a TV, AMAZING Wi-Fi, and great air-con making the stay even better!

There were soaps, creams, fluffy towels in the bathroom and was spacious and very clean! The other extras in the room included coffee, tea, sugar, milk, and bottled water. I also had a fridge, toaster, mugs and glasses Other amenities like a stove top, microwave, and laundry facilities were close to my room in a communal area, there is also a pool!

The motel is in a central location, close to all the shops yet the traffic noise is low and I was made to feel safe.

I’ve had the most perfect stay and have been made to feel so looked after, just what I needed after the frustration with my car while travelling alone so thank you...

Very friendly staff and the bed very comfortable. A bath/shower, which personally I love (I love a relaxing bath any day, and it's especially welcome when travelling), but I fear that a less agile guest may find it difficult to step into, and may even fall. Be careful. Very well situated in the heart of Katherine, a short walk to anywhere. The security gate was an issue. I was leaving early for the bus to Darwin and the lady told me to leave my key in the room. So I did. Which meant when I got to the gate (which had not been closed the night before) I could not get out. It was very stressful as the bus was connecting me to the plane so I could not miss it. Luckily for me a few other guests were up and about so I asked one to click open the gate for me. However nothing happened. A further few minutes of stress as we tried every which way, but it wasn't until another guest drove up with his car that the gate opened. This will undoubtedly be fixed as the renovations continue, but was most inconvenient and stressful for me at the time. I did make the bus, so...

This Motel’s reputation proceeded it and when my work booked me in here I was dubious from memories of what it was like a decade ago when I lived in Katherine last. I was pleasantly surprised however, when I arrived and checked in! The motel is under different management and the staff are working on improving and upgrading the facilities. I spent roughly 2 months in Katherine for work and after the second stay I requested this motel for all future trips because I found the room to be just as good if not better than the one I stayed in at knotts crossing the fortnight before and because the staff were wonderful here.

The staff are very helpful and knew me by name eventually.

This is clearly not a 5 star hotel, but you aren’t going to find anything near a 5 star hotel in Katherine. It is centrally located, so easy to walk to Woolworths, the post office and KHub as well as cafes, restaurants and the bottle shop.
