PUB STYLE MEALS - (No care taken with special dietary requirements)
I thought I'd try out the Restaurant, as it was my birthday. I rang first and asked if they could offer me a dairy free option as I am allergic to dairy, I was told that only two meals on the menu couldn't be made dairy free, all the others could be. I made a reservation for two and when we arrived we asked about the wine. I ordered mine and my husband wanted to know more about the wines on offer. The waitress said he could have a sip out of my glass and try it to see if he liked it. I thought that was odd, she then corrected her self and brought out a separate glass for him to try. We ordered two glasses of wine and the salmon on the menu, and asked for the meals to be dairy free, I noticed that the waitress had even written it on her hand. When the meal arrived the first thing I noticed that the salmon skin wasn't crispy on the outside, it looked like a steamed piece of salmon on a bed of mash and steamed veggies. I started eating, and the salmon tasted like it had been defrosted and I was sure the meal had dairy as I started feeling ill. I asked the waitress if the meal was dairy free, especially the mash potato and she said it had dairy free butter in it. I thought that was a strange reply and asked her to double check that the meal was dairy free with the chef. She returned from the kitchen and stated that the mash potatoes had butter. I sent the meal back and asked them if they could give me a dairy free option. When the waitress returned, she served me the same piece of salmon, and explained that there was more salmon that I had left behind, but because it was contaminated with the mash potatoes it wasn't included on my plate. My new non dairy meal was the same piece of cold salmon (minus the contaminated pieces) served on a tiny plate with a side of coleslaw with lots of onion. When I asked her about the veggies she said it would be an extra $7 for a side of veggies. After I explained that I didn't want a side of veggies, I just wanted the quantity of veggies that I was unable to eat because it was not dairy free. I eventually got the veggies free of charge.
However the romantic night out with hubby was ruined. And all this and two glasses of wine for $75. I rang the manager the next day and explained our experience, he apologised, and confirmed the waitress was new. I guess you can't blame it all on the waitress, she was friendly and helpful, just needed more training, but what about the chef? That was it, I was left feeling disappointed as no offer was made to rectify the situation even though the opportunity was given.
I will be going back to the Woodhouse or Maisons for a special night out in the future. This experience has made me reluctant to try out different places to dine at,...
Read moreThe quality of this hotel is fairly nice, the rooms look fairly nice and the reception is open until eleven pm which is great. Some staff can't take constructive feedback very well and feel like it's a personal attack whilst other staff are really kind and are willing to do something about the problems reported. However, The pool area is a different story, yes it's great that they have a pool and spa as well as a kiddy pool and deck chairs, but I feel like it's a saftey hazard to leave a pool cleaner that is connected to electricity in the pool during open hours. They also should take into account that the pool cleaner doesn't come all the way up to the top of the pool so the area that is not submerged in water is quite filthy. They also must do something about the water in their spa, it is green and looks milky like the water hasn't been changed, this is a way for bacteria to grow and make people ill. Personally my room's bathroom door makes an awful sound whilst opening and closing, this sound could quite easily wake people in other rooms up, I don't know if this is the same for other rooms as well but it would help keep up their good ratings up if it was fixed. When we arrived here the days had been in the 40s and the air conditioning system hadn't been turned on making the room quite unpleasant. The room itself has a ok veiw and is very spacious which is nice and the bathroom is very modern and up to date, it is also great to see things like an ironing board in our room as they are thinking of helpful things. Hopefully they can take everything I have said on board and will make some...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at this Quality hotel for one night. The hotel is located on the main road through Bendigo - High Street, conveniently and directly across the road from Lake Weeroona. It’s a very short drive from the Bendigo CBD.||On arrival after 2pm we were handed our key and informed that our room was located at the end of the courtyard. On opening the door I saw the bed unmade and a tray of food sitting next to it. I returned to reception and asked for another room. The staff were very apologetic and as such, we were allocated another room in the same area. The rooms are standard but comfortable and clean. I would have given this hotel a higher rating if it wasn’t for the train line located directly behind our room. We had V-Line and freight trains keeping us awake during the night and into the morning. Also, although the room has black out blinds, there are no pelmets fitted to keep out the external room/courtyard lighting. I prefer dark rooms when sleeping. I’ve stayed at various other motels in Bendigo with better sleeping conditions than that we experienced at this hotel.||There are two types of accommodation available, firstly the rooms located at the rear of the reception/Restaurant/conference rooms (courtyard) are the older rooms as I described above. The newer rooms are located above the reception and fronting High St looking at Lake Weeroona. Then were rooms are dearer in price.||The hotel has conference facilities, a restaurant, outdoor pool and a nice bbq area in the middle of the...
