We stayed at this hotel from November 1st to 3rd, 2024, in a small town. Unfortunately, our experience was negatively impacted by a staff member who was consistently rude. When we requested an extra towel, her response implied that we couldn’t have one, which was off-putting. We also booked a table for dinner and were served by the same staff member, who was impatient and rude while taking our order. When we mispronounced the name of a drink, she became visibly upset. I requested hot water for my diet tea and offered to pay the price of a tea, but it seemed like that was also an issue for her. Additionally, when I ordered an entrée-sized portion due to my diet, she made an unnecessary comment about it. Later, when she delivered my tea, she noticed my small Tupperware of brown rice and shouted, ‘Oh, you brought your own meal too!’ I responded calmly, offering to take it upstairs, but the entire time we were at the table, she and her coworkers kept glancing at us with looks of disdain and discussing us, making us feel very uncomfortable. If there was a policy against outside food, she could have mentioned it politely instead of reacting aggressively. The following morning, we had breakfast reservations. I decided to skip it due to the unpleasant experience the previous night, so only one of us went downstairs and joined our relatives at another table. The same staff member was upset because he did not sit at our reserved table. While the hotel and the food were fine, the service from this particular older staff member was shockingly poor and made our stay unpleasant. Professional and respectful communication would have made a significant difference.

Relaxed casual vibe in a smart chic café that is part of the Bull and Mouth Hotel, a beautifully restored piece of Maryboroughs history. It's worth poking your head through the interior doorway from the Café to the hotel and checking out the posts on the staircase to the upper levels. Look up as well in the cafe at the arched ceiling and skylights which give a bright airy atmosphere. Staff were friendly and efficient delivering our food to the table in the right order. Food was nicely plated but unfortunately our chips could have been a bit crisper and our steak sandwiches were way too soggy. The hamburger on the black bun also looked amazing but it too was way on the soggy side. Unfortunately sometimes too much of a good thing, I think our steak sangas the meat was a bit thick and so was the burger, at least 4 or 5 cm thick. Very tasty but way too much protein for us and could have done with some salad on the side perhaps to lighten the meal. The sticky Lamb Ribs were excellent, tender and juicy with a delicious mint yoghurt to lighten the richness and a little salad on the side. Nowhere near enough yoghurt as a foil for the rich sweetness of the sauce on the ribs. The coffee was excellent with some lovely Latte art, obviously made by a Barista who knows his stuff. Cake display looked tempting but we were too full!

Well, lets start with the positives I guess. The exterior of the Hotel is amazing and very well kept. The interior has been renovated and is exceptionally clean. The restaurant's food was priced well, presented well and was very enjoyable to eat. Now for the flip side. When we arrived we were made to very unwelcome and uncomfortable. Unfortunately they were winding up a lunch session, and were really busy. The least welcome I have felt at any Hotel I have stayed at. We were put in what I feel is the worst room they have despite paying the premium rate. It was an internal room (Room 4 - avoid it, posted a photo of the view.) that has 1 window that looks out to the front door (internally) and main stairwell of the Hotel. It really should not be a room, but perhaps a service room for the staff or cleaners? I did manage to speak with the Manager after our meal and she was polite and professional about it. She indicated we should have booked with them directly, and that the best suite they had was only booked late in that afternoon. Cold comfort for someone that paid the top rate, but got put into the worst room. I wish I could leave a review for the meal separately as that was a wonderful experience.
