Guess after living in my own apartment with wodden floors, a perfectly clean kitchen and bathroom and heaps of light and fresh air, I became a bit picky. I've stayed in this hostel for five days, only to bridge the time inbetween moving apartments.
positives: 15min. walk to the cbd which I really enjoyed pub downstairs with events each Friday, good to meet people, if you want to the two owners I've met are decent people I like the no smoking anywhere on the first floor rule, even on the balcony, it's just not allowed - good decision! sunny balcony upstairs I was able to park my 4WD along the big busy road without problems, it's officially a 2h zone, but I've had it there way longer and didn't get fined, I've been told they never fine you there. 🤞 I was able to see my parked car from my dorm window
+- clean bed sheets (covers), dirty blanket itself (inside the cover) +- the kitchen is resoanbly big and clean (depends on the guests just as much!), an additional fridge would have found good use though.
could be improved: the bathroom was flooded regularly (I personally find it disgusting, but I'm a hygiene nerd) when I entered my four bed dorm for the first time, it smelled. we had the windows open literally for two days in a row, even at night, but the smell didn't go away there was a carpet in my room and for me that's just a smell and dirt trap. I wouldn't expect them to be steam cleaned hahaha and they surly haven't been since years. the smell sits in the room you have to put on your bed sheets yourself
overall nice little hostel if you don't care too much about hygiene but enjoy the pub downstairs and want to meet people (mainly youngsters in their 20ies), nice outdoor pub area as well and one washing machine (3$) plus two dryers...
Read morePoor location and dirty hostel. easily a 20 minute journey in to the city. The rooms were filthy and the lights did not work. Furthermore the showers were cold and automatically turn off after 4 minutes! Additionally, the lights in the bathroom did not work either, so I was forced to poo in the pitch black dark!
To make matters worse, the owner was by far the most unfriendly hostel owner I have ever met. I've travelled all over Australia and Europe- staying in countless hostels and I can honestly tell you the owner is by far the most unfriendly I have ever had the displeasure to encounter. the hostel is full of aggressive signs telling you if you break the rules you will be kicked out! rules such as: no guests allowed upstairs, no talking upstairs at night , or you will be kicked out! my friend made the error of inviting a local friend to our room at about 6pm and we were violently sworn at and insulted by the owner. we truly had no idea we were doing anything wrong and were incredibly apologetic, but he had clearly been drinking and was literally screaming at us. I cannot mention the obscenities he called us, but it was every name under the sun ( some of which were blatantly racist). he even went as far as to grab the guest we had by the throat and told him if he ever returned he would "bash him".
Really awful place, trust me, spend the extra 5 a night for a better located hostel which will be far superior.
PS they give you a free beer if u rate it 5 stars, so I'm pretty positive that's the only reason anyone has rated 5 stars unless they've never been to another...
Read moreThis is hands down the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at! The location is perfect because it is just outside the CBD so it’s not too busy but you can walk there within 15 minutes and tram, train and bus stops are close by. The pub downstairs is great with nice staff and locals and for Melbourne cheap prices. The hostel itself is decent as well and in my opinion exactly what you pay for. It is one of the cheapest hostels in Melbourne and if you come here expecting smth fancy you will be disappointed but then you should have booked another hostel with the respectively higher price tag. There’s cleaners that come in every morning and the kitchen is fine and open 24 hours. But the best part about this hostel, that makes up for everything else it might be lacking, are the other backpackers you will meet here. It is very social and especially if you make even just the smallest effort you will have a great time and be integrated into the community here, even if you only stay for a short time. Normally there’s always someone in the common area or downstairs in the pub and it is very easy to make new friends. It truly feels like a family and I’ve met some of my best...
