A home away from home. I cannot speak highly enough of the hospitality, amenities and location of this bed and breakfast. The building has a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere and is filled with natural light. The beds are very comfortable with modern bathrooms. There was a rainwater shower head in our enseuit. There is a balcony with river views with a table and chairs. The wine in the mini bar is very well priced and it's just calling out for an antipasto platter while enjoying a glass and watching the sunset and ocean breezes. They are even making a variety their own cheeses here. In the morning it was lovely to wake up fresh from a very comfortable sleep and have a bit of a lay in with cup of tea in hand while watching the box. Netflix and YouTube is available in the rooms. Downstairs there is a lovely shared living area with a tv, a variety of card and board games, a book shelf and best of all a fireplace! This area is under utilized (read quiet) and it's likely you may enjoy this arrangement all to yourself however should you have the pleasure of either Darren or Sharrons company you wouldn't be disappointed. They are very easy to get along with while are sympathetic if you may require some me time also. For lunch we took a leisurely stroll around the corner to the boat shed Cafe which was on the riverfront. I had the grilled squid salad and my partner had smashed avo. It was reasonably priced and just lovely. Dinner was served in house and it was a hearty home cooked meal. We had lasagne with salad and it was very nice. For breakfast we had bacon, eggs, grilled tomato and baked beans along with some home cooked muffins and a cup of tea. Yuuummm. In a nut shell this place is like a home away from home but with the added benefit of a pair of hosts who's level of service is five star. You will leave here feeling...
Read moreI was looking for a stopover on my way to Queensland and thought I would find a suitable B & B in this area. I took a chance on this establishment and I wasn't disappointed. There are 3 rooms available and I decided on the Queen room, which had the separate bathroom across the hall. It was a nice set up and having the detached bathroom is better than having an ensuite attached, as it was a larger area but still private. I made good use of the bath after a long days drive from Sydney. The downstairs common area was large and inviting, which I didn't really use it because of my one night stay. It would be very handy if I was staying for a few days or more. The B & B is located a little bit back from the river and the main road, which means there were no traffic or noise issues and a short walk up a hill didn't worry me at all. It gets busy in the school holidays and the restaurants can get booked out, so I had dinner at the golf club nearby. That was a good decision. It would have been a pleasant walk to the club, but it was too cold and dark to walk along the river in the Winter months! Breakfast was great that morning and the host was very pleasant to deal with. It is hard to say anything negative about my experience and booking with them direct saved me a few dollars. I would...
Read moreCalled at the last minute for a room for two adults and our newborn (Bub had given up on driving any further that day) and Sharon was so accommodating. Just 6-7 mins off the highway, Sharon offered to show us the room before we had even locked in our booking to make sure it was suitable for our needs. We didn’t have a portacot for the Bub, but Sharon helped us put together a solution that worked perfectly. The room was impeccably clean and had everything we needed - it is clear that Sharon and Darrin take great pride in their business and are true perfectionists. To top it off, Sharon could see that the Bub was unsettled and that we were both tired (and likely hungry, which we were) so she offered to provide us some pumpkin soup and accompanying bread which was incredibly welcome on a cold evening. Overall, we can’t speak highly enough of Riverside Rest, and Sharon and Darrin. Brilliant people and our new Highway rest stop on our frequent interstate trips! And if that’s not enough, wait until you’re greeted by the beautiful views when the sun comes up - it’s a...
