This is a tricky one. It's hard to fault the motel or management. To be really finicky, the shower in my room didn't have a soap holder and it was awkward adjusting the shower water temperature before showering without getting wet from the shower. Changes in water temperature were not immediate, so you could be standing under the shower and get a rush of cold water after adjusting the knob. These are not big issues and no reason not to stay there. It was fine except.... (and this is beyond anyone's control)
Traffic noise (at least on the side of the motel where i was staying). The motel is located on a busy main thiroughfare roundabout intersection. Traffic doesn't just pass the motel but it all brakes and accelerates due to the roundabout, which magnifies the noise. Late at night it eases right off but during the day and until late at night it can be loud. Being where it is, that's just how it is. There's really not much management can do about it and I in no way criticise them for it. Just know if you stay there you will likely experience the noise, during what is in pretty much every other way a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Overall I recommend, provided you know it will likely be noisy and you are...
Read moreI stayed here with a friend a few years ago. It was fine, although we had some trouble getting them to actually deliver on things that were supposed to be "included". I am planning another trip there so thought I would give them repeat business. Their Web site claims rooms start at $160. There is nothing for less than $270, and it goes WAY up, very steeply, from there. Out of curiosity I took the time to check the same mid-week rates for an entire year. $270 is the absolute minimum for any room type, and the average minimum price is closer to $330/night. False advertising gets you zero repeat business.
As for your reply, there's no way for you to "have a record" of my stay. Even if it had been under my name (it wasn't), it's highly unlikely that you would be able to find it that easily. I have your business card and brochure from my stay. Regardless, your dishonest reply gets you a permanent blacklist. The fact is, anybody can easily verify for themselves that your Web site says "from $160" and there is nothing remotely approaching that. That has nothing to do with my past stay, and it's the main point...
Read moreMy family of 5 have just returned from a two night stay at Golden Age, as part of a wedding weekend in Canberra. We had a wonderful experience, with many of the wedding group also staying there. The Golden Age staff went above and beyond to cater to everyone's needs and making us all welcome, keeping rooms spotless, housekeeping each day, and delicious group meals prepared for us all (the bacon and egg rolls were the best!) All communication was clear and straightforward for booking in, and for selecting the right room size for my partner and I, and three teenagers. They were thrilled to have their own TV in their separate room. We spent a beautiful evening taking a very short stroll along the river, to enjoy a wonderful meal underneath the fairy lights of an enormous willow, at Cartel Taqueria, and then down to the Royal Hotel. Thank You Golden Age, for forming the perfect, restful, backdrop for a busy wedding weekend. We will be back, and highly recommend a stay here as a base to explore Canberra, or all the delights of Queanbeyan ( the Molonglo Nature Reserve is a...
